"Husband, my father is important to me, but you are even more important. I have told you before—you are the most important person in my life. Do you think I wouldn’t blame myself if something happened to you?" Yan Yuling asked.
Her words stunned him. Could he really be more important to her than her father? He could hardly believe it.
Seeing his disbelief, Yan Yuling looked into his eyes and said seriously, "Husband, I would even die for you. That’s how important you are to me."
Feng Zhexuan’s heart trembled as he stared at her. He opened his mouth but no words came out due to his shock.
"When we first met in that warehouse, I finally felt something stirring in my heart after losing all emotion from witnessing my mother’s suicide. Do you know why I stabbed that woman without hesitation?" she asked.
"Why?" he asked softly.
"Because, subconsciously, I knew you were the only one who could help me regain what I had lost. I couldn’t afford to lose you, or I would lose myself. That’s why I did it. I wasn’t protecting you—I was protecting myself."
He was stunned and muttered in a low voice, "So... I misunderstood. I thought you did it for me."
"Well, I was only five at the time. I couldn’t understand my emotions, so how could I understand yours?" she said with a gentle smile.
