Chapter 83: Alexithymia ( 2 )
Feng Zhexuan thought for a moment and said, "I wonder if there’s something wrong when someone’s eyes are very calm despite the excited expressions and reactions on their face. It’s like the emotion and expression don’t quite match up."
After a moment of silence, Professor Wright said, "I need more information about this person’s condition before I can draw a conclusion. However, this might be Alexithymia. It is not a mental health disorder but has links with post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, and various other conditions."
"I had a patient a long time ago who had a similar condition to your description. Due to the trauma, this patient lost the ability to feel emotions. I helped this patient learn how to imitate other people’s behaviors and expressions."
"Although this patient was able to have correct expressions and behave normally in daily life, the patient couldn’t recognize and express his own emotions or perceive other people’s emotions and had trouble engaging in social relationships," he added.
Feng Zhexuan’s heart sank when he heard this. He looked at the closed bedroom door and asked, "Does the patient still have a chance to recover?"
"It’s been almost twenty years and there’s still no improvement in my patient. In most cases, patients are unable to feel emotions for the rest of their lives. They lack empathy and compassion."
"Unfortunately, this condition is not considered mental health and we do not recommend medication. However, in some cases, patients’ conditions are improving after trying to move on from the trauma."
"So, the patient can only try to move on from the trauma to prevent the condition from worsening. As for complete recovery, I have not seen a case of it yet," Professor Wright said with a sigh.
When Feng Zhexuan heard this, his hand holding the phone tightened.
