After the meal, Li Xianglu carefully washed the child’s hair. When the shampoo touched the wound, she saw him shivering, but he endured the pain. Li Xianglu felt so heartbroken that she quickly cleaned it off and wiped his hair dry with a towel.
The child sat by the fire to dry his hair. Li Xianglu measured the size of his feet and realized they were too big for her own shoes. Her grandfather had an old pair of cotton military boots, worn and patched up. Li Xianglu disliked how they looked and wouldn’t let her grandfather wear them after she made him new ones. She then had Xu Wu wash his feet and put on socks and the boots.
Being a ten-year-old child, he happily walked around in his new shoes, staring at Li Xianglu for a long while before asking, "What’s your name!"
Li Xianglu smiled and said, "You can call me Sister Xiangxiang."
Xu Wu frowned upon hearing this and continued, "What’s your name! Your real name!"
Seeing the child’s stubbornness, Li Xianglu chuckled and shook her head, "I’m Li Xianglu, from Li Family Village. What about you?"
Hearing this, Xu Wu’s tightened lips finally relaxed, "I’m Xu Wu, I will repay you in the future!"
Li Xianglu found the child’s seriousness amusing and shook her head, "No need, I’m being kind to you not because I want you to repay me."
Xu Wu frowned and insisted, "No, I must repay you!"
Not wanting to argue with his stubborn nature, Li Xianglu just nodded and quickly used scissors to cut off the hair around his festering wounds, finding lice among the ugly long hair, making her hands itch.
Qin Xi came in, saw the mess, and frowned, "Keep your distance. I’ll go find someone to shave his head, otherwise the people at the sanitation department won’t even want to treat him."
