Chronicle of the 70s

Mr. Li was astonished when he took the jade cabbage, thinking it looked just like the real thing. It measured twenty centimeters in length and was not small by any means, utterly lifelike. A moment ago, he and Qin Zhen had thought someone was playing a prank, placing a cabbage inside.

However, thinking about it now, his brain seemed silly; the box had contained it for at least ten years. If it were a real cabbage, it would have decomposed without a trace long ago.

Qin Xi took it over and only glanced at it before carefully placing it on a towel on another bed.

Then, only a box measuring forty by fifty centimeters remained.

The box was simply made of camphor wood, not locked but just tied with a red string.

Qin Xi personally carried the box out, setting the large box aside on a small table and moving the camphor wood box onto the bed. Mr. Li’s eyes moistened upon seeing the knot in the string.

Seeing this, Qin Xi pulled Qin Zhen aside and took the apparently displeased Qin Zhen out of the room; after all, this was Grandpa Li’s treasure. Li Xianglu was present because she was Grandpa Li’s granddaughter and there was no need to avoid her, but it wasn’t suitable for them to stay. Even with a good relationship, some boundaries had to be respected; it was better to step out.

The two left the room, closing the door behind them, while Li Xianglu also stood up, feeling she should leave as well.

Mr. Li, however, shook his head and said, "Xiangxiang, come help Grandpa open it and see what good things have been left for us."

Li Xianglu quickly glanced over; the things left to them – Grandpa showed no desire to exclude her, not treating her as an outsider at all.

Although she had been adopted over half a year ago and they were as close as family, they had never discussed future matters. Li Xianglu never expressed her loyalty; she hadn’t said things like she would take care of him in old age. She felt those were empty words and that practical actions spoke louder than words.
