The last trace of doubt in her heart was resolved, and Jane McCain felt especially light and happy, as if nothing had changed, yet everything seemed different.
She and Allen Rivera watched the scenery, soaked in hot springs, and fed small animals together. Allen taught her to recognize each different tree, telling her which tree housed squirrels and that the winter food had already filled the whole tree hole.
Jane thought that this winter might be the warmest winter she had ever experienced.
On second thought, she realized that as long as she was with him in the future, every winter would be warm.
Having stayed at the hot spring resort for three days, during dinner, Allen said they would return to Clearwater City tomorrow.
Allen’s mother was somewhat reluctant: "In previous years, you’d stay until the Lantern Festival. Why are you leaving so early this time? Tomorrow is only the fifth day of the new year."
"I’ve accumulated many annual leave days over the years. I’ve taken several leaves this year, and with some changes at work, I need to go back early to prepare," Allen explained.
While eating, Jane silently glanced at him.
Every year, Allen had a fixed number of annual leave days, as well as paid sick leave, personal leave, and compensatory leave for working during holidays, which added up to a considerable amount.
However, he seldom took leave normally, so he would use it all up during the New Year.
