I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 1538: Mountain Summit

The four Dragonborn looked at one another in the sky. They did not need to say anything because the look in their eyes carried the same realization. They had finally reached the eastern mountain range and this was the place where the Dragonborn they had been searching for was rumored to exist.

Without wasting any more time, they began descending toward the mountains. Rather than landing at the foot of the range and beginning their journey from there, they descended directly into the middle of the mountains.

The moment their feet touched the ground, Erend noticed something strange.

A thin mist drifted between the mountains, carried by a cold wind that passed through the trees. The temperature was pretty cold that an ordinary human would have found the environment extremely cold.

That was very unusual.

Almost every region of Valthoria they had traveled through had been dry, barren, toxic, or hot. They had crossed wastelands where even grass struggled to survive and regions where the air itself had become poisonous.

But this mountain was different. There were trees, and they were green. Fresh vegetation covered parts of the mountain slopes. Leaves grew naturally from the branches, grass spread across the ground, and small plants grew between the rocks. Everything looked alive.

The mountain seemed to have a climate that was almost identical to an ordinary mountain in a world that had never experienced the Apocalypse.

It felt normal, like the world before everything had gone wrong.

The four Dragonborn immediately understood that this mountain was not normal.

Something here was protecting the environment from the influence of the artificial Magic energy that had devastated the rest of Valthoria.

Erend had already explained what he had discovered during their journey about the event of three thousand years ago when the people of this world had attempted to create artificial Magic energy through an experiment.

The experiment had failed catastrophically and eventually caused the disaster that became known as the Apocalypse.

Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven had been shocked when they first heard the explanation, but their reaction was less disbelief and more like a realization. They had already encountered people who attempted to experiment with Magic energy in dangerous ways after all. It was not something surprising

Now, after seeing this mountain, they immediately began to suspect that whatever existed here had protected the life within it from the disaster.

And if that was true, then the possibility that they would find the Dragonborn here became even stronger.

The four of them began climbing.

As they moved higher into the mountains, they encountered more signs of life. Deer moved between the trees. Birds flew from one branch to another, their calls echoing through the forest. Small animals moved through the undergrowth without any sign of fear or mutation.

There were no twisted creatures, deformed animals, or monstrous wildlife like the ones they had seen throughout the rest of Valthoria. The animals here simply lived.

They continued upward until they eventually reached the mountain’s summit.

The forest came to an end. Beyond the final line of trees, the landscape became harsher. Black and gray rocks covered the ground along with loose sand and scattered fragments of stone. The vegetation disappeared almost completely as the four Dragonborn continued climbing toward the highest point.

Then they saw something that immediately caught their attention. A large building stood at the top of the mountain. It was constructed almost entirely from metal.

The structure looks so different from the natural surroundings. Its straight walls, reinforced surfaces, and angular architecture stood in stark contrast to the rocks and surrounding wilderness. The metal exterior had clearly endured the passage of time, but it was still remarkably intact.

The building looked like something that had been placed there by an entirely different civilization.

Erend and the others exchanged another glance.

"This has to be the place," Erend said with certainty.

They approached the building. The closer they got, the stronger the sensation they felt became. Magic energy surrounded the structure.

It was not the strange artificial energy that Erend had encountered inside the facility. This energy felt natural. It carried the familiar quality of true Magic, and somewhere deeper within the building, Erend could sense another presence hidden beneath it.

Something powerful, but also old.

The four Dragonborn continued forward.

They were now certain that this was where the Dragonborn lived. The building alone was enough to make them suspicious, but the Magic energy they could feel coming from inside removed almost all doubt.

They stopped several meters from the entrance. For several seconds, nothing happened. Then the metal door opened and a man stepped outside.

He was tall and slender with pale skin and short dark hair. His expression immediately tightened into a frown when he saw the four Dragonborn standing before his home. His eyes moved from one person to another with a mixture of suspicion and confusion.

He wore a long brown coat that reached almost to his calves. The coat moved slightly in the cold mountain wind as he stopped several meters away from them.

"Who are you?" the man asked, his voice was deep.

Erend remained calm and replied, "We’re looking for a Dragon."

The man stared at him and they stayed in silence for a while.

He seemed to be trying to understand what Erend meant. His eyes narrowed slightly as he studied the four of them.

"Why?" he finally asked.

"We’re new Dragons. We came here because we need guidance." Erend answered without hesitation.

The man’s expression changed slightly. He was silent for several long moments and just looked at them.

The silence became increasingly uncomfortable. Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven remained still, but all three were clearly watching the man carefully.

Erend also began wondering what was going through his mind.

Finally, the man released a quiet sigh.

"Come inside," he said.

He turned around and walked back toward the entrance.

Erend and the others exchanged glances before following him.

The four Dragonborn walked toward the metal building and passed through the entrance one after another.
