I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 1494: A Disaster

Caelion let out a long, weary sigh as he finally recovered from his initial shock. For a moment, he said nothing. His eyes slowly wandered upward toward the stone ceiling before drifting back down to the cold floor beneath his feet.

There was nothing remarkable about either surface. They were just rough, dark stones worn smooth by countless years. But the distant look in his eyes suggested he was seeing something else entirely, as though old memories hidden deep within his mind had suddenly resurfaced.

None of his movements escaped the attention of Erend, Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven. The four Dragonborn exchanged silent glances.

They no longer needed telepathy to understand one another. After everything they had experienced together, each of them could already guess what the others were thinking.

This was not going to be simple.

Whatever the Sky Tyrant represented in this world, it clearly carried a weight far greater than they had anticipated.

Another quiet sigh escaped Caelion’s lips.

"The Sky Tyrant... I suppose if you’ve come all the way from another world searching for it, nothing I or anybody else do will truly stop you." He paused briefly before meeting Erend’s eyes again. "So I think it’s better that I tell you what I know myself."

A bitter smile appeared on Erend’s face. "You think we’ll force our way to the answers if you refuse without caring about anything."

Caelion did not deny it. Instead, he answered honestly.

"Forgive my bluntness," he said. "But after examining the four of you... that is the conclusion I reached."

Eccar chuckled softly. He shrugged as though it were hardly surprising. "Yeah. We’re used to people thinking that."

Caelion studied their expressions carefully. To his surprise, none of them looked offended. There was no anger. They simply accepted his reasoning.

Quietly, Caelion felt a measure of relief, but none of it showed on his face. It confirmed that he had made the right decision by dismissing his soldiers earlier. Negotiating with these four was proving far more productive than treating them as ordinary prisoners.

Seeing no reason to prolong the conversation, Caelion moved directly to the subject that mattered.

"Knowledge of the Sky Tyrant is strictly forbidden throughout Elyndor," he said. "The name itself isn’t a secret. Every citizen in every country has heard of the Sky Tyrant at least once in their lives. It’s taught as part of our history. But that’s where their knowledge ends.

"The truth... the real history... is known only by those who occupy positions of authority like the governors, high-ranking military commanders, the royal family, and a handful of scholars entrusted with preserving the ancient records."

"And why is that?" Erend asked.

"Because that knowledge has the potential to bring disaster."

Silence settled over the prison once again.

Erend frowned. That wasn’t what he had expected to hear. Based on this world’s perspective it seems like Sky Tyrant was a Dragonborn legacy capable of leading an entire world into catastrophe.

Then again... These people didn’t know what a Dragonborn truly was.

Their understanding of the Sky Tyrant had been passed down through many generations, most likely shaped by fear, incomplete records, and legends that could easily have been distorted over time.

What Elyndor considered a disaster might simply be another misunderstanding.

But perhaps there really had been a disaster.

Either way, there was only one way to discover the truth. They had to investigate the legacy themselves.

Sylven, who had remained unusually quiet until now, finally spoke. "What exactly is the Sky Tyrant?"

Caelion looked at him for several seconds before answering.

"The Sky Tyrant was the greatest calamity ever recorded in Elyndor’s history. More than three thousand years ago, before the floating kingdoms united beneath the current alliance, the Sky Tyrant descended upon this world. No one knows where it came from. or what it truly was.

"The oldest records describe only a colossal monster that had scales darker than the night sky. Its wings stretched across the heavens and every beat of those wings summoned powerful storms that were enough to tear entire floating islands from the sky."

Caelion’s eyes grew distant again as though he were reading directly from memories instead of ancient books.

"It possessed power beyond our reason. The Magic that creature possesses was greater than every known Archmage of its era. That monster had a body that was so resilient that no weapon forged by mankind could pierce its scales. There was a record of an entire kingdom that disappeared after challenging it.

"The skies burned. The oceans that floated between the islands evaporated. And islands that had remained suspended for tens of thousands of years fell into the abyss below. The age in which it appeared is remembered as the Age of Falling Skies.

"The survivors eventually united every nation they could. Heroes, mages, kings, saints, and countless armies fought together against the Sky Tyrant. After an unimaginably costly war... the Sky Tyrant disappeared."

Caelion deliberately chose that word.

"Disappeared." He looked directly at the four Dragonborn. "Not killed or defeated. Just gone. That uncertainty is exactly why knowledge of the Sky Tyrant is restricted. Because if people were to believe that the Sky Tyrant could return, panic would spread across Elyndor long before the Sky Tyrant actually returned."

"It certainly sounds like a great disaster..." Erend murmured.

The prison fell silent again as the four Dragonborn digested everything they had just heard.

Based on Caelion’s account, the Sky Tyrant resembled something Erend and Eccar were already familiar with. The Great Calamity. A Dragonborn who had succumbed to the Black Rage and abandoned the purpose of protecting worlds and instead became the force of destruction.

Erend slowly turned toward the others. "So what do we do?"

"What else can we do?" Aesa replied almost immediately. Her expression remained as calm and composed as ever. "We need to learn more. We already know that this Dragonborn left something behind for us."

Eccar nodded in agreement. "We’re already here. Turning back now would be pointless."

Caelion listened to their discussion without interrupting. His curiosity only continued to grow.

"So they know more than I expect," he thought. More importantly... It left something behind?

That statement caught his attention immediately. Whatever these travelers truly were, they clearly possessed a lot of knowledge about the Sky Tyrant.

Erend looked back toward Caelion. "We need to know more. Is there anywhere connected to the Sky Tyrant that still exists today?"

Caelion raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"Any place he left behind like ruins, battlefields, or maybe islands it had destroyed. Anything that still bears traces of that monster’s existence."

Caelion fell silent. He lowered his gaze and considered the request carefully. Several possibilities came to mind.

After nearly a minute of thought, he finally looked back at Erend.

"I think I can help you." But, it won’t be easy and quick. The places connected to the Sky Tyrant are among the most heavily restricted locations in all of Elyndor. Even someone in my position can’t simply walk in whenever I please. If we’re going to investigate them we’ll need permission from people with authority far above my own."

"Can you do it?" Erend asked.

"I think I can. Meanwhile, you can help me with something else."
