I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 1492: A Question

Caelion strode through the fortress with unwavering steps, his sharp eyes fixed straight ahead. His face remained composed beneath its stern expression, revealing nothing to the people around him, but his mind was anything but calm.

Questions continued to pile upon one another with every step he took. Who exactly were these four strangers? How had they entered Skyhold Bastion without anyone noticing until the Detection Array activated? More importantly, how could the Array fail to identify the origin of their Magic?

"This is bad," Caelion thought grimly. "I knew something like this would eventually happen."

Despite the unease growing inside him, none of it appeared on his face. A governor could not afford to display uncertainty before his own soldiers. If he showed hesitation now, it would spread throughout the entire chain of command before the day ended.

Five fully armed soldiers marched behind him in perfect formation. Each wore polished silver armor adorned with the crest of Skyhold Bastion, while enchanted spears rested firmly in their hands. Their purpose was obvious. They had been assigned to protect the governor should the prisoners become hostile.

Not that Caelion truly needed the protection.

Unlike most governors throughout Elyndor, Caelion possessed both exceptional Magic and an extraordinarily powerful physique. Most warriors devoted their entire lives to mastering one path or the other, yet he excelled in both.

Such talent was exceptionally rare, allowing him to rise through the ranks at an unprecedented pace. At only fifty years old, he had already become the governor of one of Elyndor’s most important floating islands, a position usually reserved for veterans well past the age of seventy.

Before long, they reached the prison block.

The heavy iron doors swung open with a deep groan.

Without the slightest hesitation, Caelion stepped inside.

One of the soldiers instinctively moved to enter first, intending to secure the area before allowing the governor through, but Caelion had already walked past him.

"My lord—"

"It’s fine."

His calm voice immediately silenced the protest.

Caelion continued deeper into the prison corridor without slowing his pace.

Finding the prisoners proved effortless because they occupied the only cell currently in use.

Inside, the four strangers rose to their feet almost simultaneously the moment they noticed his arrival.

Caelion studied each of them carefully. Two men, one young boy, and one woman with white hair and cold expression.

None of them looked frightened. None of them appeared nervous.

Despite being imprisoned inside unfamiliar territory with no apparent means of escape, their expressions remained remarkably calm. They neither pleaded for mercy nor attempted to intimidate the guards. Instead, they simply watched him with composed eyes.

For some reason... That demeanor unsettled Caelion far more than their panic or hostility would have.

He stopped right before the iron bars.

The soldiers spread out behind him, tightening their grips on their weapons, trying to appear intimidating.

Caelion wasted no time.

"What is your purpose in coming here?" he asked directly.

The young man standing at the front met his gaze without hesitation.

"We only came to visit this world and investigate something," Erend said. His voice remained calm and respectful.

"So you’re spies." The crease between Caelion’s brows deepened.

Immediately, the five soldiers behind him shifted into combat stances. Their hands tightened around their spears as though expecting violence to erupt at any moment.

Erend noticed the subtle movement. "This is getting worse," he thought.

Perhaps honesty would serve them better than carefully chosen half-truths. Yes, this was the time to just being honest.

He slowly raised both hands to show that he had no hostile intentions.

"First," Erend said, "I’d like to apologize for entering your world without permission."

Caelion’s expression twitched almost imperceptibly. Your world? Not... Your territory?

The wording immediately caught his attention.

Behind him, several soldiers exchanged confused glances.

Erend continued before anyone interrupted. He maintained steady eye contact.

"We didn’t know where we would arrive after crossing over. Our purpose has nothing to do with harming your people or your land. We’re simply searching for something. Once we’ve found it, we’ll leave peacefully."

Silence followed after that. Erend waited patiently for the governor’s response.

Caelion remained motionless. He searched the young man’s face for any trace of deception. But he found nothing.

His instincts, sharpened by decades of leadership and countless negotiations, told him the stranger genuinely believed every word he had spoken.

But instinct alone was not enough.

Trusting unknown foreigners simply because they appeared sincere would make him an incompetent governor.

Besides... The story itself sounded utterly absurd.

But still, one detail refused to leave his mind.

Your world. Not your kingdom. Not your nation. Not your island.

These four’s Magic energy, the Detection Array...

Everything pointed toward a possibility so unlikely that most people would dismiss it as absurd.

Caelion slowly inhaled. Then he asked the question that immediately caused every soldier behind him to stare in confusion.

"Are you travelers from another world?"

The prison corridor fell completely silent. Several soldiers instinctively looked at one another.

Another world? The idea sounded ridiculous. Impossible. Yet none of them dared question their governor, for now.

Unlike them, Caelion possessed access to records hidden from ordinary military personnel. Ancient archives preserved within Skyhold Bastion contained fragmented accounts of beings descending from the sky long before recorded history. Most scholars dismissed those texts as myths because of lack of more evidence.

Caelion never had. And now, standing before these four strangers with unidentifiable Magic, those forgotten records no longer felt like myths.

He would ensure the soldiers remained silent about what they heard today. Knowledge of this danger could not be allowed to spread carelessly.

Inside the cell, Erend, Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven exchanged brief glances.

None of them spoke immediately.

After a few seconds, Erend looked back at Caelion.

Then, without attempting to hide the truth any longer, he gave a single, straightforward answer.

"Yes."

Caelion straightened his back. The five soldiers behind him keep exchanging glances, but some just look at the four of them inside the cell with open hostility.

One soldier said, "Governor, I’m certain he is lying. They must be spies from another land and-"

Caelion silenced him with a gesture of his hand.

"I will take care of this from now. You all may leave."
