I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 1490: Floating Islands

The moment the four Dragonborn stepped through the portal, the familiar sensation returned.

Space twisted around them, countless streams of distorted light and foreign Magic stretched endlessly in every direction. Invisible forces pulled at both their bodies and souls simultaneously, creating the uncomfortable feeling that every part of their existence was being unraveled before being stitched back together again.

The pressure made their muscles instinctively tense and each of them frowned as the foreign energy washed over them, but none of them made a sound or showed more than a slight grimace.

They had experienced interdimensional travel enough times to understand that resisting the sensation accomplished nothing.

Besides, they were Dragonborn.

Not many beings possessed bodies and souls resilient enough to endure this kind of journey repeatedly. Had ordinary humans or even Magic users significantly weaker than them attempted to cross worlds through the same method, the consequences would have been far worse. Their bodies would likely have collapsed beneath the overwhelming dimensional pressure before ever reaching their destination.

Traveling between worlds was never easy. It was an act that fundamentally opposed the natural order separating one universe from another.

For powerful beings capable of wielding immense Magic, the foreign pressure gradually became tolerable after repeated exposure as their bodies adapted.

Those without sufficient strength, however, would bear a burden that was simply impossible to endure.

The dimensional current continued carrying them through the endless sea of distorted light.

Minutes seemed to pass within the tunnel of warped space and shimmering streams of energy twisted around them before everything suddenly stabilized.

Then finally their feet touched solid ground and the distortion disappeared.

Warm sunlight immediately greeted them.

Erend instinctively raised a hand to shield his eyes while the others looked around with cautious curiosity.

The sunlight felt... different. It was warmer than the sun back on Erend’s world, Leonora, or the other world. Not overwhelmingly warm, but enough that every Dragonborn noticed the subtle difference almost immediately.

The air carried a strange freshness mixed with faint traces of unfamiliar Magic that naturally flowed through the atmosphere.

For several long moments, none of them spoke. Their attention had been completely stolen by the scenery before them.

Silence lingered as all four simply stared. The world before them was unlike anything they had ever seen. As far as the eye could reach, there was no continuous land. Instead, the sky itself had become the world.

Countless floating islands stayed peacefully through an endless blue expanse. Some of them were no larger than small hills covered in lush forests, while others stretched for dozens of kilometers and supported mountains, rivers, and entire forests upon their surfaces.

They resembled enormous fragments of land that had been violently torn away from a planet long ago before becoming suspended in the sky by mysterious forces that ignored every law of gravity they knew.

Some islands floated alone and slowly drifted through the sky. Other islands had been connected by gigantic iron chains that stretched across the open sky between islands, disappearing into clouds before emerging again in the distance.

Massive stone bridges also linked several neighboring islands together. Suggesting that travelers crossed them regularly despite the terrifying emptiness lying thousands of meters below.

Waterfalls poured endlessly from many islands.

Instead of crashing into oceans beneath them, the rivers simply disappeared into the endless sky, transforming into sparkling streams that dissolved into mist before reaching whatever lay far below.

Far in the distance, enormous winged creatures circled lazily between the floating continents while clouds drifted beneath the islands instead of above them.

The entire world felt impossible. Yet breathtakingly beautiful.

"This is different," Eccar finally said, unable to hide the grin spreading across his face.

"It really is..." Aesa whispered.

Even Sylven, who rarely expressed amazement openly, slowly looked around with widened eyes. "I’ve never seen anything like this."

Erend and Eccar had traveled across numerous worlds together. But a world where the very land floated through the sky was a first.

Eventually, their admiration gave way to practicality.

Erend crossed his arms as he observed the nearest inhabited island in the distance. "There’s one problem," he said.

The others immediately looked toward him.

"How exactly are we supposed to enter those islands and gather information?"

Silence followed.

That... was indeed a problem.

Before arriving, Veyrun had already shared the basic information he managed to gather regarding Elyndor.

The inhabitants were predominantly human.

Some possessed Magic, while others relied entirely upon exceptional physical abilities and martial techniques instead of spellcasting. Beyond those basic facts, however, even Veyrun’s information remained incomplete.

They knew almost nothing about the world’s cultures, customs, or how outsiders would be received.

"Alright," Eccar finally said as he scratched the back of his head. "So... how do we start this?"

Naturally, everyone’s eyes turned toward Erend. Over time, they had unconsciously developed the habit of looking toward him whenever they encountered an unfamiliar situation.

Usually, Erend—or more accurately, the System—had an answer.

Erend looked back at them before shrugging helplessly.

"I don’t have a solution this time."

Three disappointed sighs echoed almost simultaneously.

Several quiet moments passed before Aesa suddenly spoke. "Why don’t we use disguise Magic like we always do?"

Eccar looked thoughtful.

Sylven, however, frowned slightly. "I’m not sure that’s a good idea. We don’t know how Magic works in this world. If their detection methods are more advanced than what we’re used to, our disguise could be exposed immediately."

"Maybe," Aesa admitted. "But we don’t exactly have many alternatives."

Sylven thought about it for another moment before eventually shrugging. "Fair enough. Then we’ll just deal with whatever happens afterward."

Everyone agreed. One after another, they activated their disguise Magic. Subtle waves of Magic energy flowed across their bodies.

Their clothing gradually changed first, transforming into garments that naturally resembled those worn by the inhabitants of Elyndor. The colors, fabrics, accessories, and even the styles shifted until they no longer looked like obvious outsiders. Minor details of their appearances also adjusted just enough to blend more naturally with the people of this world.

Only their faces remained unmistakably their own.

The illusion relied on perception rather than complete transformation. Anyone looking at them would instinctively feel that they belonged here without immediately questioning their appearance.

Whether that would actually fool the people of Elyndor, none of them knew.

Subtle Magic had never been their specialty. The power of the Dragonborn had always been meant for overwhelming force and devastating attacks. Blending into society was another matter entirely.

For now, all they could do was trust their disguise and hope their first impression in this unfamiliar world would not immediately reveal them as strangers, or worse.
