Those Classmates who Suddenly Disappeared

Chapter 1719: Rescue Hindered

Everyone stared at the treetops in terror, scrambling to move away from the tree, causing the team formation to collapse.

"What is that?" someone asked, but no one answered.

The wind was strong, the rain even stronger, but it couldn’t drown out the sound of agonized screams.

Flashlights darted wildly, but nothing could be seen; rain washing over faces blurred their vision.

With a loud splat, a lump of flesh and blood suddenly fell from the tree, and everyone’s hearts froze in shock.

Stepping closer, closer again, the squad leader saw the mangled body, torn to pieces, and a half-face riddled with despair and terror.

"It’s dangerous here, move!" The squad leader shouted, but when he turned around, he saw the others had already fled.

The rookie female officer noticed the team had completely scattered, people running in all directions without any cohesion, and knew how dire the situation truly was—if anyone wasn’t careful, they’d be separated from the main group.

But a few clever ones didn’t run blindly; sticking close to the squad leader, they hoped to survive through collective strength.

"Don’t run off alone, don’t get separated!" Although the squad leader kept yelling loudly throughout the retreat to rally the scattered members, the overwhelming wind and rain limited how far his voice could travel, unable to reach everyone.

As the rookie female officer ran, she started counting heads, realizing nearly half the people were missing.
