Chapter 1639: Accidentally Spoke Too Much
Jie was momentarily at a loss for words, unsure of how to continue. His anxious demeanor only further exposed his intention to stall for time.
The Demon King wore a contemptuous expression and sneered, "If you’re expecting Gu Fan to come save you, then you’re deluding yourself. I know my own personality better than anyone, so I used a little trick to lure him elsewhere."
"What?" Jie was shocked. "You know your past self has arrived in this era, so why did you even bother coming here to confirm it directly?"
The Demon King turned away indifferently, clearly unwilling to respond.
Jie saw that Leng Feng was about to be taken away. Anxious yet helpless, he clenched his fists in frustration, powerless to act, and could only watch in despair.
"Damn it!" Jie resolved to risk everything, determined to delay things further no matter what.
Sensing Jie’s desperate stance, the Demon King gave him a warning: "Old friend, I advise you not to act recklessly. Save your life and tell my past self what happened. Then help my past self win the upcoming battles. If I were you, that’s what I would do."
Hearing this, Jie froze in shock. All his impulses and fighting spirit dissipated completely.
"That’s more like it." The Demon King waved dismissively and bid his old friend farewell.
Jie watched the Demon King’s retreating figure. It was both familiar and alien to him, that dizzying sense of someone being both friend and foe. Hatred and regret intertwined within him.
