Chapter 243: It’s Great to Be Alive
Deep in the night, when all was still, Leng Le sat on the bed, wrapping her arms around her knees, burying her head into her legs, sighing occasionally, and forcing a bitter smile.
After a while, Leng Le raised her head and gazed blankly at the lights outside the window. She observed the beautiful cityscape in the night, staring at her reflection in the window, a reflection of despair. Suddenly, she felt like an alien in this world. Her heart felt suffocated. She poured herself a glass of wine and drank it all in one gulp.
It had been a long time since she had heard from Gu Fan. She suspected the worst... Leng Le knew that it was irreversible and was slowly coming to terms with this reality.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Leng Le was perplexed - who could it be so late at night? Could it be the big boss?
Leng Le got up and went to the living room. She opened the door and was shocked beyond words. What on earth was happening?
"I’m sorry. The doctor’s visit took longer than expected, so I am late. You won’t blame me, right?" Gu Fan stood at the door, forcing a few dry laughs. Although he didn’t look completely recovered, his complexion had improved significantly.
"You?" Leng Le was confused. By this time, Gu Fan should have succumbed to the poison. Why was he here, standing perfectly well, and even seemed to be getting better?
Gu Fan entered, his steps unsteady from weakness. He collapsed onto the sofa and started complaining, "It’s the fault of that hospital I went to. They had an intern treating me. He misdiagnosed my condition, which not only resulted in no improvement but made it worse. Fortunately, Sister Su took me to the emergency room today, and that helped me recover somewhat."
"Oh, really." Leng Le wondered. If this was merely an illness, then what about the poison? Even slow-acting poison wouldn’t move this slowly, would it?
