Chapter 156: No way out
Du Jun huffed coldly, then took position at the front of the group. He looked indifferently at Gu Fan, Lu Yi, and Jie, finally saying solemnly, "You’re mistaken about one thing. I’m not colluding with them, I’m leading them to accomplish our millennial mission."
"So, this rich second-generation has some grand ideals." Lu Yi said scornfully, making Du Jun look quite upset. He had never liked Gu Fan and Lu Yi.
In a deep voice, Du Jun said, "I never intended to let you go. Since you’ve thrown yourself into the lion’s den, don’t blame me for being ruthless."
"I figured as much. You won’t allow anyone who knows the truth to leave and expose your deeds." Gu Fan folded his arms, appearing calm and relaxed, which made Du Jun wonder why he could be so composed - perhaps he has some backup plans, some hope of victory.
Du Jun, however, could not conceive of any chance for Gu Fan to retaliate. He simply snapped his fingers, signaling the town’s people to attack.
But Gu Fan laughed it off. "Think carefully, Du Jun. If you won’t let us leave, you won’t be able to either."
"What do you mean by that?" Somehow, Du Jun had a bad feeling.
Gu Fan added another question: "Don’t you find it odd that Su Hui, Teacher Liu, Ouyang Jin, Qin Jia are all missing?"
"Really?" Du Jun’s brows knitted together. Though he was unclear about Gu Fan’s plans, but...
Seeing Du Jun’s anxious expression, Gu Fan gave a faint smile. "You haven’t forgotten how you got here, have you? If you still want to leave, you’d better listen to me. Otherwise, Su Hui, Teacher Liu, and the others will destroy all the inflatable rafts, making it impossible for you to return through the underground river."
"What! How could I forget that." Du Jun’s face grew dark. He suddenly remembered that Gu Fan and his team had already dealt with all the guards on the inflatable raft side, meaning the town’s people had lost control of the rafts, and thus the exit route. If things were as Gu Fan suggested, and Su Hui and Teacher Liu had taken care of the rafts, then the townspeople would be stranded even after they finished their sacrifice.
