"Lao Wang, are we almost there? I can’t go on anymore." Cao Yangming dragged his legs, carrying only his bag on his shoulder; both guns were stashed in a tree hollow.

Wang Chengxue also found it incredibly difficult; going out with a newbie is clearly different from going hiking with a few veterans, especially on unfamiliar paths.

Checking the watch and compass, Wang Chengxue smiled to encourage Cao Yangming: "We’re close, just hang on for another hour or so. There are prepared wood and supplies in the cave, plus compressed biscuits and the like. Also, there’s a dripping water spot in the cave that can give us a few bowls of water each day. We still have food; once we get there, you can rest, sleep a bit, then get up and eat something—your fatigue will be gone."

He was drawing a picture to Cao Yangming, and Cao Yangming knew it was just words of comfort, but they both sweetly smiled.

As he smiled, Cao Yangming added: "I think I’m hearing things, like really loud rotor sounds, louder than drones..."

"You’re not hearing wrong. It’s a helicopter. Hide." Wang Chengxue pulled Cao Yangming, pressing against a large tree again.

The large trees deep in the mountains were covered in vines, unknown slimy fungi, and various kinds of ugly insects—not necessarily alive, some were long dead, but because of their indigestible chitin, they lingered for a long time.

Cao Yangming gasped, his whole being exuding a deathly aura. He was somewhat not wanting to die now, but felt it was almost impossible to reach the cave alive.

Wang Chengxue looked at him worriedly; he needed help to survive in such an environment, otherwise, there would be nobody to take turns at night, which was extremely dangerous. What’s more, Cao Yangming carried quite a bit, and if he fell now, Wang Chengxue wouldn’t be able to carry supplies for two people.

"Let’s take this chance to rest. Once they can’t find us, we’ll move." Wang Chengxue’s mind wasn’t functioning much anymore; he was focused entirely on reaching the cave.
