Chapter 954 - 890 Initiative
The atmosphere of the explosion site was oppressive.
First, the smell was terrible; second, the visual impact was overwhelming.
Even though Captain Wang had said that the bodies had been moved away, in actuality, while the bodies had been cleared, there was still plenty of flesh paste clinging to the ground.
Here’s a morbid tidbit: if someone were within the blast zone, what changes would their body undergo? If the explosion was strong enough, such as the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, there would be many shadows resembling the remnants of bodies vaporized or sublimated. In other words, under an extreme explosion, a body could completely disappear.
And when the explosion is very strong, but not to that extreme, there’s also a poignant example. There once was a profession in Israel that specialized in cleaning up the remains of suicide attack victims. The use of "cleaning up" is because the attackers wearing bomb vests and the victims closest to them are turned into flesh paste, sticking to the ground.
Due to the hot climate, a lot of the flesh that landed on the tar roads would stick to the asphalt, making it even harder to clean up.
However, the power of the bomb vests was so large that the final remaining weight of those at the epicenter was often only about ten to twenty kilograms, making them somewhat easier to lift.
But from a forensic perspective, when a strong enough bomb explodes in a crowd, it’s very difficult to distinguish how many bodies there were.
You could say, count two eyes as one person, but many of the bodies don’t have eyes anymore, count a head as one person, but not all heads are intact...
Forensic anthropology, useful in fire or mass murder scenes, wouldn’t work well here, at least to say, it’s hard to come up with an accurate answer in a short period of time.
