In this world, the most powerful thing was magic. The top-level battles were all decided by magic. There was nothing that strong enough magic couldn’t solve. If there was, it meant there weren’t enough people. Just add more people, those with strong magic power.
A powerful spellcaster needed an immense amount of knowledge and abundant magic power. These both required time. So, longevity was power, the longer you lived, the more meals you ate.
The top of the food chain was always occupied by immortal races. However, this didn’t mean that being an immortal race necessarily made you powerful.
The strength among immortal races also varied greatly.
For example, the worst immortal race—the slime. Yes, just that blob of gooey, glue-like creature. Surprise, right? It was actually an immortal race. There was nothing to be done about it, it could achieve immortality through natural division and its magic sensing ability was so-so. Unfortunately, it didn’t have a brain. Thus, as humans expanded, slimes were turned into soap bars and eventually went extinct across the entire continent.
The most classic immortal races were angels and demons. One served the holy spirit, the other served the demon lord. These two races had clear affiliations and were natural enemies, possessing strong magic sensing abilities, immortality, and were considered semi-magical creatures. They were widely known not just because of their immortality and strength, but also because of their extreme aggressiveness. Simply put, they loved teaching others how to live.
In stark contrast with them were the liches. They were an immortal and reclusive race. Having severed most of their desires, magic became their core pursuit. Pure magical creatures with extraordinary magic sensing abilities, they didn’t need to rest and were born geniuses. Generally speaking, a lich of the same age was stronger than an angel or demon of the same age. After all, from the moment they came into existence, most of their energy was spent improving themselves and rarely did they meddle in other matters.
Of course, there were also intermediary races, such as—the blood clan.
Except for the innate need to go out and get some fresh blood, they, like liches, enjoyed staying at home. However, even among homebodies, there was a difference. Liches were technical homebodies, while the blood clan were lazy homebodies.
