Chapter 111 - 39: Black and White (6)
The crowd cheered, and the people lifted Benedict II up into the already deserted Lion King Palace.
Well, it wasn’t exactly deserted, as many of the original servants and maids of the Lion King Palace were still there, but they were scared out of their wits, locking themselves away behind closed doors, making it no different from being deserted.
Benedict II was held high by the people, laughing hysterically.
The scattered mercenaries around were also unusually excited.
Countless pairs of mud-soaked shoes had trampled the dark red carpet into gray.
The people stormed into the palace hall, placing Benedict II onto the empty throne. Someone brought him the crown.
The scene resembled a king being enthusiastically embraced by his people. Yes, it resembled, but it wasn’t actually a king embraced by his people.
In the midst of the cheers, Benedict II’s hysterical laughter stopped, because he vaguely saw a large group of people starting to move the palace furniture. He frantically grabbed the hand of the mercenary leader beside him and said, "Stop them immediately!"
"Stopping them now would get us both killed," the mercenary leader said, his eyes widening.
Benedict II’s eyes widened as well.
A thug leader, still wearing prison clothes and just released, pushed his way in front of Benedict II, pointing at his nose. Yes, pointing at Benedict II’s nose, you read that right. He pointed at Benedict II’s nose and shouted, "Your Majesty! I support you! I demand you let me form an army! I used to collect protection fees, but I have reformed! Now I can help you collect taxes!"
