Chapter 44: Last Resort
Adam killed the third assassin. He watched the man fall to the floor, his body twitching in its final moments. He had done it. He had won. But his victory was short-lived.
His eyes widened in horror. He saw the door to Sophia’s room swing open. She stepped out into the hallway, her face a mask of terror and confusion.
Behind her, her mother and her younger sister peered out, their own faces filled with a dawning dread. They saw the bodies. They saw the blood. They saw Adam standing there, a pistol in his hand, a ghost in the midst of a massacre.
Sophia’s mother sees Adam and then sees the bodies lying on the floor. She becomes even more scared as she doesn’t know who this boy is and what he is doing. Anastasia thought that Adam could be a possible love interest for her elder sister Sophia, but seeing the situation here, she is unable to understand that her elder sister is trapped with a man.
Adam took a step forward. He was about to yell at Sophia, to scold her for her foolishness, for opening the door, for putting herself and her family in danger. But then he saw it.
The third assassin, the one he had shot in the face, was not dead. The man’s hand was moving. It was twitching, his fingers fumbling for something hidden beneath his black tactical vest.
’ no...’ Adam thinks because he knows that if this assassin is alive then there is a huge threat to Sofia’s life. He has to neutralize him as soon as possible or else all his hard work will go waste.
Adam raised his pistol again. He aimed at the dying man’s head. But before he could pull the trigger, the assassin slammed his hand against his own chest.
Adam could not understand what this assassin was trying to do, why is he trying to kill himself by putting his hand on his chest is he giving himself some medicine or is there some kind of button that can call backup.
