Chapter 35: Start of a Battle

The moment Daniel stepped through the shimmering veil of the gate, something felt wrong.
There was no blinding light, no swirling winds, no surge of transported energy that usually accompanied dimensional travel.
Only silence.
And when the light around him faded, he found himself not in a bustling city or monster-infested wasteland, but in a room.
No, a chamber, vast and ancient, layered in unreal geometry that bent space at the edges.
The air was stale, suffocating.
Cold... yet not physical.
The floor beneath him was carved from obsidian veins that pulsed faintly, like they remembered life.
There were no windows and no doors.
Only a vaulted ceiling stretching into a void, and torches lit with colourless flame, casting long, flickering shadows.
And before him, across the far end of the hall, stood seven thrones.
