Book 5: Chapter 50 — A Farewell to Void
The creature commonly known as Dylan was not, as would be traditionally defined, spying on Noah at all times. Except when his holder was directly interacting with the Astral Script to upgrade or evolve something, Noah's thoughts and actions were entirely unknown to the Void creature in charge of monitoring the man.
What Dylan did have full access to was Noah's Astral Script, including several layers of it that were never shown to the user. Insignificant flags being triggered, potential Paths being opened, requirements being fulfilled for things Noah would never think to look for. He was two rescued children away from unlocking a Childcare path, for instance, and one rare creature away from unlocking the Trophy Hunter path. Dylan knew full well that Noah had no interest in choosing either, and would probably filter them out sight unseen for not being rare enough even if he did end up earning access to them.
However, while this bland list of actions and unlocks may be useless to Noah himself and irrelevant to his actual Path progression, it did give his supervisor a constant running update list of what his wayward charge was up to out in the physical world.
Dylan could not in truth lounge back on a spinny chair with his feet on a desk, sipping a warm drink while a list of Noah's actions scrolled steadily by, but if he had been, he'd have spat out his drink in shock and jumped to his feet when the latest feat came through.
Revolving Doors Are My Jam. Requirement: Died at least three times. Died in more than one realm.
It was in this exact moment of shocked disbelief that Dylan found himself abruptly ejected from the cozy comfort of Noah's Astral Script and spat out into a blank, empty, and very unfriendly terrain.
"I just have to figure out how to use any of it without the system showing me what to do,” Noah thought loudly. “How hard could that be?"
"Quite hard, you absolute idiot," Dylan retorted irritably. He'd lost control over his physical form and ended up stuck half human half space octopus. “You’re making a terrible mistake, just so you know. This is your last chance to save your self before it’s too late.”
"Dylan?” Noah turned to him with surprise. “What are you doing here? I thought you only showed up in my evolution screen. How did you get out here if the Astral Script is inaccessible?"
