Book 5: Chapter 44 — Arcane Rebirth
“Noah?”
Tony’s voice dragged Noah out of the fugue of concentration and he barely kept hold of the distant thread of Life Siphon keeping him alive. And, more importantly, showing him where their enemy was. Looking back through his memories, Noah kept losing track of the man, even when they were directly confronting one another. So long as he held the man’s life on a tether, he could point to the other end and say enemy even if all his senses pretended to show him an empty room.
“Noah, help?”
I’m coming. Noah gradually shifted his focus away from sustaining and back into Abyssal Awareness. At first, all he found was a distorted blur of power that he failed to comprehend, but as his awareness expanded out to its full sphere, he recognized the mana crystal cavern. You made it! You’re the best, Tony.
Their enemy was far away, and moving even more distant. Noah could only hope that meant his gamble was right, the power surrounding them on all sides was enough to hide him from their pursuers. He might stand out as a small B-Ranked thing in a place where almost everything was A-Rank at least, but if he was a tiny pocket of lower power within a crystallized clump of an existing power? That might buy him time to reconstruct himself.
“Noah is also the best,” Tony replied smugly. “And will become even better. Noah will be the greatest dragonoid ever.” Tony’s voice hesitated, as if ashamed to admit it. “The only thing lacking is usable mana. Tony has tried everything, but this place is too strong.”
Everything Noah was draining through Life Siphon went directly into Wyrmblood, which Tony was directing into very, very slowly creating a functional spine and ribcage to protect his heart.
Want me to try meditating? I’m not sure how much it relies on having a body.
“It does. Tony has already tried.”
