Chapter 34: Rival
Ordinary. That was Meltas’ initial assessment of Risir’s magical aptitude.
While achieving the 3rd rank as an illegitimate child was certainly significant, he was, after all, a nobleman.
There were countless commoners who, despite reaching the 3rd rank at Risir’s age, couldn’t even set foot in a mage tower. If not for the power of normalization, Meltas wouldn’t have shown any interest in the lad.
“What do you mean it happens sometimes?”
Yet what was this? In literally the blink of an eye, Risir had become a 4th rank mage. He had achieved, in mere minutes, what even those born with special talents required months to accomplish.
“Did you secretly gulp down an elixir on our way here?”
Meltas was so bewildered, he blurted out a silly question in all seriousness.
“Well, you know...That thing of mine.”
But when Risir subtly mentioned his power, the look on Meltas’ face changed dramatically.
“...That? What does that have to do with this?”
“Well you know, I think it occasionally causes this kind of phenomenon.”
