Chapter 1778
Wu Qiangwei lay in Song Guanchao’s arms, listening to his gentle snores, smelling his scent, and feeling very much at peace.
Scenes of their first meeting constantly flashed before her eyes, snippets of their three years together flitting by, and a slow smile curled at the corners of her mouth.
She leaned her head closer to Song Guanchao, closed her eyes, and entered her dreams.
...
"Knock knock."
"Who is it at this hour?"
Chairman Fang’s wife mumbled, nudging Fang Yan who lay sleeping like a dead pig beside her: "Stop sleeping, go open the door."
Fang Yan rubbed his eyes and groggily got up.
Opening the door to see the police, he immediately sobered up, a flash of tension crossing his face as he feigned calmness: "Who are you looking for?"
The leading officer said, "Fang Yan, you’re suspected of financial crimes, come with us."
Fang Yan’s mind buzzed, realizing the matter had been exposed.
But he quickly calmed down, knowing full well that everything was legal and compliant.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t still be in Jiangzhou after receiving the money.
"I’ll change my clothes." Fang Yan left the door open, allowing the police to enter.
He walked into the room, said a few words to his wife, changed, and came out: "Let’s go."
The officer glanced at the room: "Ask your wife to come out too."
Fang Yan protested, "Officer, what does this have to do with my wife?"
The officer said, "Please cooperate."
Fang Yan was unhappy but knew resisting was pointless, so he reluctantly went back to call his wife out.
His wife didn’t know what was happening, only realizing her husband was being taken away for investigation.
But now, why was she also being taken away?
She anxiously looked at another room: "Officer, my son is home alone..."
The officer said, "Call your family elders over."
Fang Yan calmly said, "Call Mom over."
His wife nodded and called her mother.
Meanwhile, Tan Miao and Director Ma each led a team to find some shareholders.
This scene was being played out across several high-end villa communities in Jiangzhou.
At eleven in the deep night, five shareholders of Yanghe Petrochemical, along with Executive Director Fang Yan and Judicial Bureau Director Huang, were all brought to the Disciplinary Committee’s holding center.
Unlike other suspects, these six were wealthy and experienced, maintaining composure even under interrogation.
"Name."
"Yang Wan."
"Age."
"54."
"Do you know why you’re being arrested?"
Yang Wan said, "Comrades of the Disciplinary Committee, if I’ve committed a crime, just tell me directly. If there’s evidence of my crime, present it. You’re the police, I’m an adult, don’t play guessing games with me. My time is valuable, I don’t have the leisure to waste here with you."
The two City Disciplinary Inspection Committee members conducting the interrogation were one nearing forty and the other in their twenties.
The younger one was asking questions, lacking experience, and was at a loss for how to respond to a few retorts from someone of Yang Wan’s stature from the upper echelons of society.
He clearly couldn’t suppress this billionaire boss.
He got a little angry, wanting to scold, but thinking of Yang Wan’s status, felt a bit inadequate.
The older Disciplinary Committee member said, "Mr. Yang has a point, so let’s be quick."
He placed a stack of documents in front of Yang Wan.
Yang Wan picked them up, glanced through them, then laughed and set them down: "So it was this matter."
The middle-aged man asked, "Mr. Yang, do you admit to it?"
Yang Wan shook his head, then nodded: "Indeed, the company’s accounts were unfrozen, and the money was used to procure some things. There’s no problem with that."
"But some of the details you understand differ from reality?"
"Such as?"
"For instance, the money was used for procurement, not transfer."
"And another, why the accounts were unfrozen, I’m not sure of."
"Not sure?" The middle-aged man smiled, "Director Huang has already admitted to taking bribes from you."
He said this while staring at Yang Wan, yet Yang Wan, with his strong psychological fortitude, showed no expression or emotion.
"Nonsense." Yang Wan said, "I repeat, if there’s evidence, produce it."
The middle-aged man said, "Mr. Yang says the money was used for procurement, may I ask what was procured?"
Yang Wan said, "I’m only a shareholder, company operations are not my responsibility, I only know a general direction."
...
"Speak up, Director Huang." Tan Miao personally interrogated him.
Director Huang looked innocent: "Secretary Tan, what do you want me to say?"
Tan Miao said, "You should know, unless the Disciplinary Committee has absolute certainty, it wouldn’t casually subject comrades to detention interrogation. Since you’re brought here, it’s natural that we hold evidence of your violations."
"I don’t know what Secretary Tan is referring to." Director Huang shook his head, though he appeared calm and innocent, he was still quite anxious inside.
As Tan Miao said, being taken here already indicated that the matter had been exposed. As for whether the Disciplinary Committee truly held any evidence, he couldn’t determine for the moment.
Tan Miao knocked on the table: "How did the Yanghe Petrochemical accounts get unfrozen?"
Director Huang said, "Someone forged official seals, I’ve already reported this to Mayor Wu."
Tan Miao stared at him: "Director Huang, let me be frank. If you admit now and return the bribery money from Yanghe Petrochemical, the City Committee and Municipal Government, considering your sincere attitude, might deal with you leniently."
"If you continue to stubbornly resist and hope to take chances, the consequences will be severe."
Director Huang smiled bitterly: "Secretary Tan, you’ve wronged me, what bribery? It’s genuinely someone who forged official seals."
"Director Huang, get some sleep." Tan Miao stopped questioning, as he’d already delivered the message properly.
He planned to report the interrogation results to Song Guanchao the next day and see how he’d decide to handle it.
...
The next day, Song Guanchao opened his eyes, looking at the unfamiliar room, his mind blanking for two seconds before he abruptly remembered, this was Wu Qiangwei’s place.
He reached out, touched nothing, sprang up from the bed to find he was alone on it.
If last night’s events hadn’t been so real, Song Guanchao might have suspected it was all just a dream.
He threw off the covers, walked out of the room, and heard sounds from the bathroom; turned out Wu Qiangwei was showering.
"Showering this early in the morning..."
Song Guanchao muttered, grabbing the clothes he had scattered along the way the previous night to put them on.
By the time he was dressed and brushing his teeth, Wu Qiangwei had finished her shower and came out.
"Awake?" Wu Qiangwei avoided eye contact with him, given the intimate act just shared, she still felt a bit embarrassed inside.
Song Guanchao spat out the toothpaste foam, his eyes knife-like as they roamed over her, making her uncomfortable, and she quickly scampered back to the room.
A few minutes later, Wu Qiangwei, now dressed, came out and while squeezing toothpaste said: "You should head back first."
Song Guanchao said, "There’s no rush, let’s leave together later."
"You go back first." Wu Qiangwei turned and looked at him, her expression serious.
Song Guanchao was puzzled for two seconds, then immediately understood, she was worried about being found out by Wu Ming that he’d spent the night with her?
A woman who just had an intimate encounter might not want it known immediately.
"Alright, I’ll leave then."
Song Guanchao walked over, hugged her from behind, gave her a peck on the cheek, and patted her butt before leaving, satisfied.
