"Were you living in the Fae realm before this?" she asked softly, easing the question into the space between them like a whisper on the breeze that blew in peaceful green plains. She didn’t want to push him, just coax him open, little by little. After assuring him that his pain would be safe with her. Her breath hitched. He was opening a door, letting her glimpse a sliver of the vastness he carried inside. It meant a lot.
Kai leaned in and pressed a kiss to her shoulder, his lips trailing to the base of her neck. Her body answered before her thoughts did, her head tilted, baring more skin to him, wordlessly pleading. He granted her wish, his mouth drawing a soft moan from her lips.

His sexy chuckle hummed against her skin, and her heartbeat stumbled. That voice, so close, laced with mischief and warmth, it was deliciously overwhelming.
