Chapter 134: Asking for the Fae help?
Ren shifted in her seat, uncomfortable, doing her best to avoid the sharp, judgmental glances thrown their way. Good gods and Saints above, why did everyone act like they’d witnessed a scandal? No one batted an eye when others bedded their mates, so why in all the burning hells were these people staring at them as if waiting for a confession?
She swallowed a bite that felt more like gravel than food. If it weren’t for the urgency of the situation, she would’ve barricaded herself in their chamber for a week, long enough for the memory to fade. But this... this night wouldn’t be forgotten. Even she had to admit, it had been extraordinary. A rare alignment of stars behind the veil of shadow. The kind of night that might never come again.
"This will be the last meal we share before heading to war," Elder Dean announced calmly, though the shame still clung to his voice, no doubt thanks to his granddaughter, Elaika, and her scandalous, murderous behavior.
"Yes! Let’s enjoy it," Calisa’s father added quickly, eager to steer the conversation elsewhere before any reckless tongue could reopen last night’s wound or the mating ceremony of the Alpha king with his wife. He didn’t care what had happened. What mattered was that soon, an heir might be born, and the Queen, after all, carried the sacred bloodline in her veins. She was a half-fae.
"Please, enjoy your meal," Kai said warmly, and so they did, each bite passed in heavy, contemplative silence, the calm before the storm settling like mist over the table.
After the meal, the feline elder spoke up, his voice careful but firm. "Your Grace, are you certain you don’t want to take our Alphas to the meeting, for support?"
Kai shook his head. "No. Every one of my Alphas needs to spend the next two days gathering their warriors. We attack exactly as planned. The Generals completed their final survey, and their findings align perfectly with ours. I won’t place our fate solely in the hands of human kingdoms." His voice lowered, tight with resolve. "Lutherieth has eleven Lords. Even if we strike him down and strip them of their portals, they’ll still have enough strength to rise again. If we leave even one Lord standing, they’ll bide their time, rebuild, and come for us."
He let that truth settle in the air like a warning.
"We must kill them all."
