The Devil's Son and His Fated Bride

Chapter 18: Godly Burning Eyes

Starting with a preamble, she tried to make it comfortable for them to strike up the conversation. Most of the time, she had a lot to say, but when the time came to speak, his beauty and the look on his face distracted her. He was the kind of person who could shatter the strong walls she had built around herself to avoid him. The more she resisted him, the more her thoughts tumbled over to the image of him.

"Thank you for making this chair. It is very comfortable."

Ren noted that. She was truly amazed at how careful he was about even the details.

"Don’t mention it. I would have done it for everyone, Doe-eyes!" He ran his fingers into his jet-black hair. Doing that made Ren see how bright his golden eyes shone in the nighttime. During the journey, his hair was always on his forehead, covering his thick eyebrows and eyelashes. Now that she recalled it well, he was always lowering his eyes quickly, not staring at her for so long.

’Does he find me ugly to look at?’

"You are not different!" His words hit like lightning. Of course, she was even lesser than others in his perspective. A frail mortal he didn’t want to be with. Why did she forget that he was pretentious in front of others?

"You care about your people a lot!"

He nodded. "I do. I had promised to make this land a safe home for them. Any threat will be diminished."

His voice was hoarse and carried a tinge of warning. She chuckled bitterly. "I’m not intending to harm anyone. And this is the subject of our conversation." He might be concerned about her seeking revenge upon Elaika.

He threw his left leg on the right one and interlaced his fingers, ready to hear her.

"Why did you take the bracelet off? You could have let me die and put the blame on my uncle."
