Chapter 1493: I Can Handle These Matters
Things had already started happening on this end, unbeknownst to Alice Turner and Thomas Fisher at the Turner Family; Thomas was chatting with Joe Turner about business matters, while Alice was pulled aside by Sophia Wood for a heart-to-heart talk.
"Benjamin Shaw should know about you and Thomas by now, right? He didn’t give you any trouble, did he?" Sophia glanced at the two men sitting not far away and lowered her voice as she asked.
Alice Turner shook her head, "No."
They had already arranged to meet tonight, and she decided that she would clarify everything with that man in one go this evening. He shouldn’t be that unreasonable, right?
"As long as there’s none." Sophia didn’t doubt Alice’s words; she has always had great trust in Alice, never questioning or doubting her.
Alice said there was none, so she believed there was none. She was reassured about Benjamin but still held worries about Alice’s future mother-in-law, Autumn York.
"What about Thomas’ mother? Did she...?"
"No, Mom! Don’t worry, I can handle these things."
As soon as Sophia’s words came out of her mouth, Alice knew what her mom was worried about. Before her mom could say the rest, she reached out to hold her mom’s hand and, at the same moment, took over the conversation.
No matter what, Sophia couldn’t set her mind at ease regarding Autumn York, after seeing Autumn’s attitude clearly during their meal together yesterday.
Autumn was reluctant about Alice being with Thomas; Sophia had known this for five years. What she couldn’t foresee was, even after five years, Autumn still couldn’t accept Alice.
What was wrong with her daughter? Why does she end up not being welcomed by any mother-in-law?
Her younger daughter has now found happiness, with the mother-in-law not only accepting her but treating her exceptionally well.
But now her elder daughter has to go through the same ordeal as her younger daughter back then. How could she help her elder daughter through this difficult time?
Knock, knock, knock!
Just as Sophia was racking her brains on how to assist Alice, knocking sounds came from the door.
"I’ll get the door."
While the other three were still in a daze, Alice got up and walked out of the living room swiftly; soon, her figure disappeared from the living room entrance.
"Auntie! Charlotte!"
Thinking it was her sister Lily Turner, Alice opened the door, only to see Isla Lane and Charlotte Shaw, the mother and daughter duo. She was particularly surprised, and a deep concern surged through her heart.
Isla Lane stared at Alice, who had opened the door for them, so agitated that she temporarily forgot to respond, staring unblinkingly.
"My mom heard that you’re back and especially came to see you," noticing her mom was too excited to speak, Charlotte quickly responded.
"Auntie! Come in and let’s talk."
No matter the reason for their visit, guests are guests, so Alice made room at the door for the two people outside to enter.
This time, Isla Lane snapped out of her excited expression, looking at Alice with joy, "Alice! It’s so great that you’re back."
"Auntie! Come in and let’s talk." Playing it cool, Alice pretended not to notice the joy and excitement in Isla Lane’s eyes, maintaining a polite demeanor.
Charlotte recognized something was amiss, and before Isla Lane could speak again, she reached out and took her mom’s hand, leading her into the house.
Hearing the noise at the door, Sophia emerged from the living room, and upon seeing it was Isla Lane and Charlotte Shaw, a hint of worry flashed in her eyes.
