Chapter 1466: I Have No Hope Left
"I’ve already got no hope left."
Benjamin Shaw yanked Charlotte Shaw’s hand off him, then stood up, staggering as he walked into the bathroom.
"You..."
Bang!
The loud sound of the door slamming cut off the words Charlotte hadn’t yet managed to say.
Stinky brat!
She lifted her foot, about to follow her brother into the bathroom to talk some sense into him, but in that instant she caught sight of the phone lying quietly on the bed, and she suddenly stopped.
She put down the foot she’d just raised, turned sideways and bent down to pick up the phone, and as she picked it up, she realized a very serious problem.
She couldn’t unlock it at all. She’d been thinking she could dig out some information from the phone, but now all she could do was stare at it in frustration.
While Charlotte was worrying over the phone, Benjamin had already started showering in the bathroom, rinsing off his disheveled state and his bad luck.
After washing up, he sobered up quite a bit, but that cloud of gloom in his chest still refused to lift.
He stood in front of the bathroom mirror, looking at himself. Water was dripping steadily from his hair that he hadn’t had time to dry, and because he’d just been crying and drunk, his eyes were now completely red.
Benjamin ran a hand through his wet hair, bent down to take a bath towel out of the cabinet, wrapped it around the important parts of his body, and only then opened the door and walked out of the bathroom.
"Why are you still here?"
Seeing Charlotte still sitting on the bed, Benjamin frowned and strode over to her.
"Things aren’t cleared up, how could I..."
Charlotte hadn’t finished her sentence when Benjamin, who’d come over, grabbed her and hauled her up from the bed, then in a flash dragged her toward the door. She was so angry she glared straight at him. "What are you dragging me for? I’m not leaving."
She braced her body, refusing to cooperate with him as he pulled her out.
"I’m going to sleep. You should hurry back, if you stay too long your husband will start looking for you." Benjamin slightly increased the strength of his grip. Charlotte might be strong, but she was still a woman, and she was dragged out of the room by him.
Once she was out, he casually shut the bedroom door.
"Your brother-in-law’s gone to Golden Morning, he’s not home." Charlotte shook off the hand gripping her arm, but she didn’t go back into the room. She stood where she was, glaring at Benjamin in dissatisfaction. "You coward, you only know how to use this tough-guy routine on me. When it comes to Alice, you..."
"Just go home. I have to work tomorrow." Before Charlotte could finish, Benjamin kicked her out again, this time even raising a hand to point toward the door to the apartment, his attitude looking especially firm.
Charlotte’s attitude was just as firm. She glared at Benjamin, who was trying to send her away, then turned and started toward the living room, waving a hand behind her back. "Go back in and get your sleep. I’ll just make do on the couch."
If she didn’t get to the bottom of this, she definitely wasn’t leaving.
If it couldn’t be tonight, then tomorrow when he was fully sober she would absolutely pin him down and ask him properly.
Watching his sister walking off toward the living room, Benjamin let out a deep sigh. Forget it. Let her be. She was his own big sister, after all.
He didn’t follow to chase her out. After one look at Charlotte striding into the living room, he turned around and went back to his bedroom.
Bang!
Hearing the door slam, Charlotte instinctively turned to glance back. By then Benjamin was already inside. She sighed toward that door.
Stinky brat! When are you ever going to wise up? You already lost your chance once five years ago—are you really not planning to cherish it even now, five years later?
