In the more than half a year since Mom left, I became like a wild child, not really welcome in any home, always having to watch people’s faces to get by.

She placed Stone’s meal on a stool slightly lower than the edge of the kang bed to make it easier for him to reach without getting too tired, "Stone, we won’t run short of food for you, you should always eat till you’re full, understand?"
Stone nodded and made a silent vow in his heart to repay Sister Luo Qiao and Brother Lu in the future.
After the meal, Lu Yichen gave Stone some instructions and then prepared a thermos of warm water for him. That bamboo tube became Stone’s cup.
Lu Yichen was off work today and wanted to get Stone’s matters sorted out. First, he needed to retrieve the divorce agreement from Stone’s mother, and second, get a guardian certificate for Stone from the village to update at the police station.
Stone’s parents’ old house was now occupied by the Sun Family, and Luo Qiao had already told Stone not to worry about his clothes and bedding, to just leave them for the Sun Family.
Luo Qiao had stayed up the previous night to make two sets of clothes for Stone to change into, and left the shoes for later due to the lack of ready-made soles, planning to flatten and dry some old clothes when she had time.
Threading shoe soles was not something she could do, and she intended to check the market for any available soles; plastic soles were not yet for sale in the market, and available ones were often made from tires.
