Chapter 1982 - 1982: A Joyful Celebration (Part 2)
Wang Cuilan pulled a basket of radishes from the Lu Family's private plot, planning to make fritters. Taking advantage of the good noon sunshine, she went to the river to wash the mud off the radishes. She heard that their kid had been accepted to Capital University, so she quickly dropped the radishes to find out more. Passing by Wang Zhenguo's door, she overheard the packed crowd's conversations, including Wang Zhenguo's, and couldn't help but smile.
"Xibao's grand uncle, what you're saying isn't quite right."
The crowd parted, and Wang Zhenguo looked at Wang Cuilan, who said he was wrong, "How am I wrong? What I said is not wrong at all. We're celebrating right after passing the preliminary selection. If we don't get the admission letter later, wouldn't it be a wasted celebration?"
Celebration, isn't it just celebrating the youth from Wanglou Brigade getting into university?
Passing the preliminary selection doesn't guarantee admission.
The leaders here are fairly reasonable; preliminary selection means official selection, essentially reaching the admission score. In some regions, the pre-exam screening itself is called preliminary selection, and passing it only gives eligibility to take the college entrance exam.
But Wang Cuilan said, "Admission letters can arrive early or late. If we wait until the letters are in hand to celebrate, some who start school early would have already left; who would we be celebrating for? Xibao planned early on to go to the Capital to find his parents as soon as he gets the letter. Besides, if someone passed the preliminary selection but didn't get the admission letter and couldn't go to college, how would they feel watching you celebrating the students who did get letters?"
Wang Zhenguo seemed thoughtful, "You've got a point."
"As long as it makes sense." Wang Cuilan waved her hand, squinting her slightly blurred eyes, her face full of wrinkles like an old chrysanthemum, "You all decide, just let me know once you've decided, and I'll have Zhou Zhou call Xibao's brothers back."
Wang Zhenguo hurriedly said, "Quick, quick, the admission letters are waiting for them to collect!"
Zhou Zhou had long heard that her husband was admitted to Capital University. She said goodbye to her bedridden grandmother and came out, just in time to meet Wang Cuilan, "Granny Cheng, I was just about to tell you, to get their brothers back, do you have any message for me to pass on? Or buy something to celebrate?"
Wang Cuilan chuckled, "As long as they're back, first get the admission letters."
Everything else is just fluff, not worth mentioning.
Zhou Zhou responded with a hum and rode her bicycle out of Wanglou Brigade.
Wang Cuilan returned to the riverside to continue washing the radishes. Several women washing clothes by the river congratulated her, "Your family suddenly has three university students. Guan Yu's wife shouldn't have any trouble getting in either, right?"
"Zhou Zhou's grades are good, and the country prioritizes teacher's colleges and medical universities for admission. I reckon there should be news in a couple of days. Moreover, our family might not just have three university students. Tianjun's wife also took the entrance exam in the Southeast Military Region, and Guan Cheng and his wife took the exam in the Capital, though there's no news yet."
"Wow, they all took the entrance exams? Your family is so smart; they'll definitely get in."
Wang Cuilan smiled slightly, "College entrance exams rely on real ability, not just intelligence. If you're only smart without reviewing, you can't get in either. I'm not sure how well they reviewed."
"Speaking of which, Zhou Zhou and Guan Yu have been married for a few years now, haven't they? Why haven't they conceived yet?"
Hearing the words "conceive," Wang Cuilan squinted and looked over.
In Wanglou Brigade, "conceive" means being pregnant, and not conceiving clearly means not being pregnant.
