Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue lined up with the children at the back, the children in front, and them behind.
The children grew up in the military environment, occasionally dining in the mess with their parents, so they were used to queuing for meals. Holding their bowls skillfully, each received two meat buns and a bowl of porridge.
However, since their two hands could only hold one bowl of rice, they had to trouble the guard uncle with a little bamboo basket for the hot buns that were a bit too warm to handle.
Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue noticed a bamboo basket filled with mixed grain rolls on the counter. Perhaps the orphanage worried there wouldn’t be enough buns, so they heated some rolls as well. The couple took two rolls each, served themselves some rice, and didn’t take any buns.
The two guards saw this and also opted for rolls instead of buns.
Director Lin hurried over, saying, "How can the leaders not have buns after getting them?"
"It’s alright, the rolls are nice. Leave the buns for the children." As they were at the end of the line, there was no rush to leave. After saying this, Feng Qingxue asked, "Do you have plates? I’d like some pickled radish; the rolls go well with pickles."
She noticed a yellow enamel basin filled with chopped pickled radish on the table.
