Wang Zhenguo was knowledgeable and experienced. He wouldn’t wait for the tractor and thresher to break down before figuring out how to fix them. During the busy farming season, who has the time to run into town to buy these items? And it’s not even certain they’d be available immediately.

Grandpa Lu immediately chimed in, "Right, right. I heard from my granddaughter that their brigade’s tractor uses a lot of fuel, a whole lot. Without fuel, it won’t work. So, stocking up on fuel isn’t a bad idea."
Grandpa Lu’s family was large and thriving, and though nobody knew which granddaughter he was referring to, everyone understood that tractors were a good thing.
Everything was ready, and the summer harvest began.
The villagers finally witnessed the power of the tractor and thresher. The tractor hauled the harvested wheat to the field and unloaded it in one trip, which was equivalent to seven or eight trips with flatbed carts or three or four trips with horse-drawn or mule-drawn carts. People didn’t have to strain themselves at all. During the day, the tractor transported the wheat, and at night, the thresher took over. Forks loaded the wheat into the thresher’s opening, and from the wide belt below, wheat grains sprayed out above.
Both the livestock and the people saved energy, but the most impressive thing was the speed.
All the wheat was harvested and threshed. Then the tractor’s bed was removed, and a plowing blade—a plump contraption that seemed to be called a rotary tiller—was installed. The fields were immediately ready for cultivation, far faster than plowing with livestock.
