Their family buys books in complete sets, never minding the cost.

Although the department stores and various food stores are bustling with people, there are hardly any customers in the bookstore aside from the staff, with the bright red Quotations from Chairman Mao occupying most of the shelf space.

There stood an old man in plain clothes, thin and worn, reading a book in front of the bookshelf. He was looking at an English book, his nose supporting a pair of glasses mended with tape. His hair was all white. When the bookstore staff sorting the books walked by him, they veered away as if he were a piece of filth, fearing to get tainted.
"Teacher Qin, are you here to buy books?" Feng Qingxue greeted as she walked over.
Professor Qin looked up at her, laughing self-deprecatingly, "How could I afford it? Taking advantage of the school break and not having to scrub toilets, I just came out for a stroll. I’m just here to have a look, as many glances as I can get."
Feng Qingxue felt a pang of sadness, whispering, "I made you a winter coat. You weren’t in, so I left it at the reception with Teacher Jin."
Professor Qin was taken aback, his eyes reddening.
