The entries stated that Wang Xinsheng had two wives. The first was Zhu Hong and the second was Guo Yan. Zhu Hong bore him three sons and one daughter, but a son and daughter were lost in the war. The remaining two sons, Wang Qingping and Wang Qing’an, were both important figures. Zhu Hong passed away due to illness during the war. A few years later, Wang Xinsheng took Guo Yan as his second wife and had six children. Their eldest son died on the battlefield in the Northeast. The remaining five grew up to work in various industries; none of them pursued careers in politics or the military.

Feng Qingxue did not read much about Wang Xinsheng’s family life, as the entries following his children were about his grandchildren. Twenty or so in total, a mix of talented boys and girls, too many to count.

She focused on the major events of Wang Xinsheng’s life, particularly the decades of the sixties and seventies.

Feng Qingxue bolted upright when she read that Wang Xinsheng was dismissed from his post in ’66 and sent to work at the Northwest Farm.

The year ’66, wasn’t that just three years away?

It seemed that he didn’t escape that disaster. What should she do?

This was politics, and she understood nothing about it. She had no way to warn or prevent it from happening, as it was so intricate and complex. It was far beyond her capabilities to avoid it, no matter what she might say.

With that thought in mind, she hastened to read on, only to find that Wang Xinsheng regained his post in ’73.

Which meant, even if he suffered during the disaster, he was reinstated a few years later and continued to serve his country until retirement.
