"Do you think Gu Yazheng would trouble Fu Bing for Fu Ning’s sake?"
Ren Zhi was stumped for a moment. "Gu Yazheng and Fu Ning are husband and wife, bound by shared interests. Fu Ning believes Fu Ying’s return to Jiangnan caused her series of problems. Combined with Gu Yazheng’s enduring feelings for Fu Ya, Fu Ning isn’t likely to let matters rest."
Ren Ye didn’t deny his conjecture. "There is indeed a possibility in what you say. However, your understanding of human nature is still too shallow. You’ve overlooked another possibility."
"Please enlighten me, Second Uncle."
Ren Ye smiled. "You’re too by-the-book, like a naive young man lacking social experience. Fu Ning once collaborated with Gu Yazheng’s parents to deceive him, pulling him away from Fu Ya’s side. He’s been unable to face Fu Ya ever since. Gu Yazheng might very well resent Fu Ning."
"That... I think Gu Yazheng has his own issues," Ren Zhi replied. "He could have explained things to Fu Ya. Given that Fu Ya could raise someone as good as Fu Ying, she must be a very understanding person. The one he should truly blame is himself, not others."
"If everyone were as broad-minded as you, the tragedies in this world could be halved," Ren Ye said, making corrections on the work records. "Consider carefully the advice I’ve given you."
