Chapter 203: Played For A Fool
Erik stood from the couch and looked at their wedding photo for the commercials they did for Bay Gardens Residences. She was sitting on a swing decorated with beautiful flowers. He was standing behind her lovingly looking at the pretty bride’s slightly upturned face.
Perhaps Erik’s rational mind has accepted that indeed there was no chance for her to survive the tornado. But his stubborn heart was in denial. For as long as he did not see the corpse of his wife, he will hold onto a glimmer of hope that she was still alive.
"Yana, why did it come to this? Next week is only our first wedding anniversary! All the preparations for our wedding are already in place. I told you, I will give you a proper wedding." He lamented bitterly.
At the end of the week, with very little sleep and no nourishment, coupled with extreme exhaustion and emotional upheaval, Erik collapsed and went into a coma. He stayed in the hospital for a week.
Cassie has visited him several times to plead for forgiveness but he has given strict instructions not to let her into his ward. He also banned his father and grandfather from visiting him. He has not gotten yet to the bottom of the incident at the ancestral mansion but that was of lesser importance compared to Aryana.
Cassie was dejected. She whined to both her grandfather and George Lee but the two patriarchs can’t do anything if Erik did not want to see her.
"Give him time. When he is well and has come to terms with reality, he will definitely talk to you." Patriarch Lopez advised Cassie.
On the day Erik was discharged, he went to the bar with Marlon, Alex, and Franco.
He downed glass after glass of liquor. His friends were just silently drinking with him. No words of comfort were said. They just accompanied him.
