The Billionaire's Promise

Chapter 61: She Was Left Behind

"At least you were sensible enough to keep your marriage a secret. Find time to divorce her. You can keep her if you want but she can never carry my surname." George said with finality.

"I have a lot of business associates and close friends whose daughters or granddaughters would be happy to marry you. You don’t lack choices. Why settle for someone like her?" George continued to scold Erik.

"Grandpa, you don’t even know what she is like. It is not her fault to be born into a poor family. She graduated at the top of her class and is very talented. Her beauty is only secondary to her talents. Besides, it is as if I need to rely on the strength of my wife’s family to succeed." Erik explained.

George looked at his grandson thoughtfully. ’This rascal is right. He doesn’t need a marriage alliance to be successful.’ But he did not dare to utter his thoughts.

"Hmmm. Looks like she bewitched you. If I had known that you will fall into the hands of a nobody, I did not support your Dad’s plan to send that girl away three years ago. At least her family has a better background..."

"What did you say, Grandpa?" Erik interrupted him.

George realized that he said something that he should not have. But since he already let the cat out of the bag, there was no sense in denying it.

"We gave the girl money and send her away." He said without emotion.

"Didn’t you realize what you have done Grandpa?" Erik asked bitterly.

"What have I done? Aren’t you a successful tycoon now? You are a business genius. The top CEO and the youngest billionaire in the country. That girl will only hinder you from getting to where you are today." George said forcefully.

"You are cruel and selfish Grandpa," Erik shouted angrily then he punched the wall. His hand bled but he did not feel any pain.
