Chapter 611: A press conference
As Madam Xi observed the interactions around the table, her gaze fell upon her son and grandson, Xi Ting and Xi Xiaobao. She couldn’t help but notice the tender care and attention they showered upon Qin Yan, their focus solely on ensuring her comfort and well-being.
A flicker of unease crossed Madam Xi’s face as she watched Xi Ting and Xi Xiaobao doting on Qin Yan, their gestures of affection and concern unmistakable. It was clear to her that Qin Yan held a special place in their hearts, their attention fully devoted to her.
Madam Xi glanced in Liu Ying’s direction and a pang of unease washed over her. Despite Liu Ying’s composed demeanor, Madam Xi couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. It was as if a silent understanding passed between them, a shared awareness of the discomfort that lingered in the air.
Though Liu Ying remained silent, her subtle cues spoke volumes to Madam Xi. It was clear that Liu Ying, too, felt out of place amidst the palpable closeness between Qin Yan and her family. And in that moment, Madam Xi realized that this feeling of displacement was likely a daily occurrence for Liu Ying—a constant reminder of her perceived outsider status within the family.
As Madam Xi reflected on the situation, a sense of responsibility weighed heavily on her shoulders. She couldn’t help but feel that her decision to invite Liu Ying to move into Moonlight Villa had inadvertently contributed to her feeling out of place. In her mind, she had hoped to foster a sense of belonging for Liu Ying within the family, but now she realized that her actions may have only exacerbated the problem.
But as Madam Xi grappled with her feelings of guilt, another, more unsettling thought began to surface. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Qin Yan was somehow at the root of Liu Ying’s discomfort. It was as if her presence cast a shadow over the harmony of the household, leaving Liu Ying feeling like an outsider.
Thus, after the dinner was over, Madam Xi summoned Xi Ting again. This time Xi Ting did not refute her and heard everything she had to say patiently. Liu Ying’s eyes lit up as soon as she saw Madam Xi speaking to Xi Ting while Qin Yan’s face darkened. She knew that whatever Madam Xi said would not be any good for her. However, none of the ladies could hear what Madam Xi said. They just knew that this time there was no argument between the mother and son.
This also made Liu Ying suspicious of the fact that Madam Xi really spoke for her sake or not. But Qin Yan knew Madam Xi and thus she was sure that even if there were no arguments, Madam Xi would never take her side.
After Madam Xi left and Xi Ting returned to his room, Qin Yan asked Xi Ting if something was the matter but Xi Ting shook his head and told Qin Yan not to worry. Seeing that her moonpie didn’t want to discuss it with her, Qin Yan also did not ask further.
She freshened up and prepared for the bed. The next day Nie family had organized a press conference to acknowledge Qin Yan as their family member. Qin Yan had recovered fully and thus, the Nie family had decided to acknowledge her on the next day. They waited for her to recover first, so that she won’t have any problems later.
Even though Qin Yan was not a legitimate daughter of Nie Qinyu, with Nie Mianmian gone, she was his only daughter and the only granddaughter of the Nie family. Thus, the Nie family wanted to give her a proper recognition in front of the society.
