Chapter 437: The best trainees
As the weight of their conversation still lingered in the air, a gentle shift occurred as the waitstaff entered the room, elegantly presenting the dinner they had ordered. The aroma of the meticulously prepared dishes began to fill the space, momentarily diverting their attention from the emotional revelations.
Plates were placed before them, each a work of art in itself. The clinking of cutlery against porcelain resumed as they picked up their utensils, their focus now on the culinary delights that lay before them.
Fang Zichen’s gaze lingered on her plate for a moment, her thoughts a mix of introspection and the present moment. She had agreed to do a DNA test with Qin Yan, which ignited a hope in her heart that Qin Yan might be her daughter and her only offspring.
However, along with it, there was a fear in her heart that she would be disappointed if the DNA results showed that Qin Yan was not related to her. A spark of hope ignited in her heart would then diminish leaving her heart empty.
The air in the room grew more solemn as Han Cheng turned his attention towards Xi Ting, his expression a mix of curiosity and concern. With a slight clearing of his throat, he posed the question that had been lingering in the back of his mind.
"Xi Ting," Han Cheng began, his voice steady but with a gravity that matched the mood of the conversation, "I’m curious to know what led you to investigate Zichen’s past. I mean Zichen and Miss Qin were not connected in any manner. And looking at your investigation results, it does not seem that you have gotten these results in a short time."
Xi Ting’s gaze met Han Cheng’s, and he took a moment to compose his thoughts before responding, "You are right. I was investigating Su Cen for a long time as someone had mentioned to me earlier about her."
Han Cheng’s eyebrows arched in surprise, a flicker of curiosity dancing in his eyes, "Who mentioned Su Cen to you?"
"Nie Qinyu."
Hearing this name, Han Cheng’s face turned overcast. He sat there as rigid as a stone carving. As for Fang Zichen, her face turned deathly pale. This name was like a nemesis in their lives, specially for Han Cheng.
Xi Ting and Qin Yan observed the faces of the Han couple but did not say anything.
