Chained Hearts: From Slavery to Sovereignty

Chapter 103: sleep-deprived man

Cassian asked in a gentle voice. Now he felt more comfortable, so he could finally think clearly, and it seemed his mind was slowly coming out of the haze of that damn void.

"Amm, me?" the old man said while turning the herbs and fiddling with his small bag—a bag that Cassian had not even noticed earlier.

"Yeah, you? Weren’t you the one who saved me?" Cassian pressed on with eager eyes.

"Hah! Young man, you really know how to joke! I am just an old healer. Where would I get the power to save a knight?"

"It’s the master of this place who rescued you and your companion."

"Master? Companion?" Cassian’s eyes suddenly widened as memories from the last day came crashing into his mind.

How could he forget about his companions? They were all seriously injured, and here he was, living in complete oblivion.

"What kind of leader am I? That void completely messed with my brain and rendered me helpless."

"I have to go and see them! They are all injured; they must be waiting for me!" he said hurriedly and walked towards the gate, trying to pull the door open, but it did not budge. He was suddenly yanked from behind, and the old man dragged him back to the bed.
