Chained Hearts: From Slavery to Sovereignty

Chapter 42: That’s enough!

Vincent looked at the boy, who held his sword. Vincent remembered he was the same boy from that day, the day he had stepped foot here, but something was off, terribly off... And when he realized what it was, his expression could not help but harden.

Vincent furrowed his brows when he could not find the same distinct scent on him that he had smelled on that day. He was sure that distinct scent came from this boy. That scent only belonged to those who were from that race.

Because so many things had happened, he had forgotten about his existence. His entire focus was on his lord and the shocking realization he got after meeting his lord, and there was also her... his little witch.

But it was not too late to remember; he could still find out whether the scent was his mere imagination or if this boy really belonged to that race. Without thinking twice, Vincent drew the sword from the nearest knight and landed a powerful strike on Cassian.

He did not give anyone the time to react; everyone was left flabbergasted by his actions. No one had predicted this move from him. After all, who had thought a powerful, mighty prince, whose name was famous on the battlefield, would suddenly attack a mere servant boy?

There were several cases of direct punishment from royals, but never this brute, and no royal had publicly executed a servant in the middle of the day and, of course, in front of everyone. They always left the dirty work to their subordinates because they found it distasteful to move even a finger on lowly servants.

Several maids closed their eyes; they were clearly terrified. The fear was visible in their eyes because no one knew when they would be in that position. They were sympathetic that such a fine boy would lose his life today. Most of them already thought that the servant boy had offended the prince in some way, and now his end was near.

But the situation entirely changed when the boy in question suddenly raised the sword in his hand and deflected the powerful strike from Prince Vincent in a skillful manner. Everyone’s jaws dropped at the scene before their eyes; they could not believe it, but it did not end here...

Prince Vincent attacked Cassian again; there was a wide smirk on his face, and the look on his face was akin to that of the devil, who had finally found his interest in the boring world. Prince Vincent attacked Cassian continuously without taking a break; he was adamant to prove that his speculations were right.

On the other side, big, sweet drops fell from Cassian’s forehead; he was at his edge. He did not know where he got this strength to hold back a powerful attack from a battlefield maniac. But maybe when death looms over your head, even a rabbit knows how to bite.

Cassian thought that Prince Vincent would leave him alone after his first attack, but he was proven wrong when Prince Vincent landed another powerful blow. Cassian gritted his teeth and shouted while his hands withheld the brute strength from Vincent’s sword. "Your Highness! I am not a knight. If you want to fight, you could probably choose one of the knights present here. I think they would be far better than me."

Vincent’s lips curled into a manic grin, and his eyes gleamed with wild intensity. "Oh, but where’s the fun in that, little boy? A knight would just bore me. You, however? You’re a delightful surprise! After all, who would have thought a servant boy could wield a sword so perfectly?"
