----------------
The entire afternoon was spent in simple yet effective training.
As the session wrapped up, Sasuke, Hinata, Shino, and Hayate all returned to their homes and families.
Uchiha Hikaru had just stepped out of the training grounds, and realizing no one was home to make dinner, he considered heading to Ichiraku Ramen to end the day with a hot meal.
But then he suddenly stopped, turned around, and moved swiftly toward the northwest.
It had already been over a week since Tsunade and Shizune moved back into the Senju ancestral home, and he hadnât visited them yet.
Perfect opportunity for a free dinner and maybe even an overnight stay. Nothing unusual about that.
Besides, with just Tsunade and Shizune living in such a massive house, it must feel lonely.
What if the two of them get scared at night? he thought with a grin.
Located near the heart of Konoha, in the prestigious northwest sector, stood the Senju clanâs ancestral estate.
Uchiha Hikaru followed the path he remembered. When he reached the entrance, he didnât bother with the door.
What kind of ninja uses the front gate like a civilian? Thatâs just tasteless.
With practiced ease, he vaulted over the wall.
The front yard was lined with a perfectly manicured lawn and a small koi pond.
This place looks even better than mine... Damn it. I need to teach her a lesson.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
He knocked on the red door a little harder than necessary.
"Who is it? Why are you disturbing me so late?" came Tsunadeâs irritated voice from inside.
"Iâve already been exhausted all day!"
"Canât you justâ"
The door opened mid-complaint.
The moment Tsunade saw the person sheâd been thinking about day and night standing at the door, all her irritation vanished in an instant.
Uchiha Hikaru leaned in, his mouth brushing against her ear, and whispered softly:
"Whatâs wrong, Godaime Hokage~?"
"Not happy to see me?"
"Should I leave, then~?"
The warm breath in her ear sent a tingling sensation down Tsunadeâs spine. She gave him a flirtatious side-eye.
"Youâve got some nerve showing up after all this time."
Despite her words, she turned away, grabbed his wrist with one hand, and pulled him into the house without hesitation.
Hikaru dropped himself onto a wooden chair in the living room and took in his surroundings.
Nearly all the furniture was made from fine wood. A closer look revealed a subtle, pulsing vitality.
Wood Release, huh? Even after sixty years, it still holds chakra.
Then an idea struck him.
His Sharingan activated, three tomoe spinning as he scanned the room, trying to observe the structure through the lens of his dojutsu.
But after a few sweeps...
Nothing? That canât be.
His body, rich with Hashiramaâs cells, had a sensitivity to chakra that couldnât lie.
He narrowed his eyes. The tomoe spun againâthis time transforming into the MangekyĹ Sharingan.
He pushed his visual prowess to its limitâapproaching the strength of the Eternal MangekyĹâand examined the room once more.
Finally, at the edge of one of the wooden shelves, he caught a faint trace.
Tiny blue chakra particles drifting through the air were ever so slowly clinging to the furniture.
So thatâs it...
This furniture isnât just oldâitâs constantly being nourished by ambient chakra.
If Hashirama laid down massive Wood Release constructs beneath the estate, this whole place might be sitting on a natural chakra battery.
That kind of energy reserve could be used for almost anythingâmedical ninjutsu, seals, even strengthening the village barrier.
"Hikaru, get in here!" Tsunadeâs voice called from the study, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"Whatâs up?"
As he stepped inside, he saw Tsunade pressing her fingers against her temple, visibly frustrated. She pushed an envelope toward him on the crimson desk.
"Take a look yourself... Ugh, my grandfather left so much crap to deal with."
Hikaru frowned as he examined the envelopeâdecorated with golden inlay, trimmed with fine animal hide.
A letter from the Daimyo?
If this is some political stunt, I swearâ
He opened the letter and skimmed through it quickly.
My dear granddaughter,
I heard that you have returned to Konoha and become the Fifth Hokage. I am filled with joy. It has been far too long since we last met. If you have time, I hope youâll visit me. For the development of the village, I would like to do my part by providing assistance and support.
Hikaruâs furrowed brow slowly relaxed.
So thatâs how he wants to play it...
As expected of a seasoned politician. The Daimyo hadnât mentioned his title once, referring to himself solely as "grandfather" and placing himself in a humble position throughout the letter.
At the end, he promised a massive financial grant to Konoha.
Hikaru tossed the letter back onto the desk, walked up behind Tsunade, wrapped his arms around her from behind, and rested his chin on her right shoulder.
"Your grandfatherâs got a good head on his shoulders. He didnât make things hard for you, and now he wants to fund the village."
"You know, back when the Third Hokage was in charge, Danzo had to threaten the Daimyo just to get funding."
Tsunade blushed as she felt the solid warmth behind her.
"Cough, cough..."
Hikaru chuckled and let her go, sensing her flustered reaction.
"I get what you mean," she said, composing herself.
"But that was over a decade ago. The old man isnât the problemâitâs the ministers under him."
"They kept trying to push their sons on me. Proposing political marriages. Over and over."
"It disgusted me. Thatâs why I stopped visiting the capital altogether."
In the next momentâ
A violent, freezing chakra burst from Hikaruâs body.
Boom!
CRACK!
A howling gust of wind accompanied the chakra surge, shattering the window glass and sending papers flying around the study like a blizzard.
The walls and furniture, made with Wood Release, held firmâtestament to their legendary craftsmanship.
"Itâs fine. Iâll go with you."
"As the Hokageâs assistant, Iâve got every reason to accompany you to meet the Daimyo."
"Iâd love to see which one of those pompous nobles dares lay a finger on my Hokage."
Tsunadeâs heart skipped a beat.
Is it really just as Hokage...?
"Who the hell dares touch a woman of Uchiha Hikaru?" he muttered darkly.
"This is the perfect chance to meet the family."
Tsunade shot up from her chair, her face scarlet, and shoved Hikaru with both hands.
"Ugh!"
Hikaruâs back slammed into a wooden pillar.
And then... a battle of wills ignited between them.
â
Half an hour later, Shizune stood outside the study, holding a tray of dinner, ready to call Tsunade for the meal.
But thenâ
She heard those sounds again. The ones that had haunted her ears last week.
Her cheeks turned crimson.
Screw it. Theyâll eat when theyâre hungry.
Iâm going to bed. Thank the Sage this house is big enough... Maybe they wonât shake the whole place tonight.
