Chapter 157: Quantum Realm Out of Control! Wanda Unleashes Chaos Magic
Quantum Realm?
Does magic work there?
Wanda thought for a moment. She didn’t even know what the Quantum Realm was.
So she looked up at Lorien and asked,
"Lorien, what is the Quantum Realm?"
Across from her, Natasha nearly choked when she heard that. But realizing Lorien was the one being asked, she let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Gwen raised her hand.
"I know what quantum means."
"It’s when a physical quantity has the smallest indivisible unit, and that unit is called a quantum."
"In other words, the tiniest, tiniest, tiniest indivisible unit in the microscopic world."
"But the Quantum Realm itself... I don’t know."
Gwen was right.
But the issue was—
Lorien was setting the dishes on the table as he spoke.
"From the perspective of modern physics, Gwen’s explanation is correct, but..."
At this moment, Wanda, Gwen, and Natasha on the phone were all listening intently.
Lorien continued,
"But the existence of the Quantum Realm doesn’t belong to physics. It doesn’t even belong to science."
"Don’t try to use the science you know to understand the Quantum Realm. It won’t work."
"As the saying goes, the end of science is theology."
Haven’t you heard the phrase, ’When in doubt, quantum mechanics’?
It’s like no matter what problem you face, quantum mechanics can always be used as the answer. That in itself reflects the uncertainty and the strangeness of quantum mechanics. All the more so for the Quantum Realm."
Natasha, still on the phone, felt her nerves spike.
"Then how do we stop the Quantum Realm’s activity?"
"Can Wanda’s magic shut it down?"
Wanda shrugged. She had no idea.
"Natasha, I’ve never tried, and I don’t even understand what the Quantum Realm is."
Lorien chuckled softly.
"Why don’t you ask that genius... that genius middle-aged man, Tony Stark?"
At this, Natasha sighed.
"The number Tony left us was his home phone. When I called, Pepper answered."
"But Pepper said Tony’s away. At best, he’ll be back in a few days. At worst, a few months. Where did he even go? Off-world?"
Oh~~
Lorien suddenly remembered.
Tony didn’t go off-world.
He went to study magic, determined to become the next Sorcerer Supreme.
And honestly, that was his fault. In the original timeline, Tony never studied magic. But Lorien wanted to see Tony wielding sorcery—plus, magic could extend his lifespan.
So he recommended it to him.
And Tony, truly intrigued, went.
Wanda then turned to Natasha with curiosity.
"What happened, Natasha? Why are you so desperate about the Quantum Realm?"
Lorien was wondering the same.
Wasn’t the Quantum Realm supposed to show up in Avengers 4?
Or Ant-Man 2?
Avengers 3 wasn’t even here yet, and the Quantum Realm was already making trouble.
Could it be a timeline anomaly?
Or the Multiverse starting to interfere?
Natasha’s voice was tense.
"Because there’s a van parked at our base, and Hank Pym—the original Ant-Man—told us the Quantum Realm is inside it."
"And right now, it’s out of control. His daughter got pulled in, and her fate is unknown. He’s asking us for help."
"The bigger problem is that the Quantum Realm is slowly expanding. Hank said if it isn’t stopped, it’ll just keep growing without limit!"
Hm?
Lorien raised his eyebrows at that.
This really sounded like Ant-Man and the Wasp’s plot.
But why was it different?
And why so early?
Who changed it?
He released the Phoenix Force to sense the cause, and the result...
It was somewhat connected to him.
But not because of him directly.
It was like the butterfly effect—a butterfly in the Amazon rainforest flapping its wings and eventually causing a storm.
There was a connection to him.
But it wasn’t his doing.
The deeper cause was the timeline itself becoming unstable.
Tony retiring early to study magic.
The Darkhold in Westview being taken too soon.
She-Hulk appearing ahead of schedule.
Layer after layer of chaos.
And because of that, the storylines began clashing and twisting even more.
Before, the timeline could still correct itself.
But now, it was obvious.
That ability to stabilize was weakening.
Wanda looked at Lorien and asked,
"Let’s go check it out?"
After all, it sounded pretty serious. And they didn’t have much to do today, so why not take a look?
Lorien glanced at Gwen.
Gwen nodded, her eyes full of curiosity.
"Let’s go. I want to see what the Quantum Realm actually looks like."
Good idea.
Lorien only knew about the Quantum Realm in theory, but he had never actually seen it.
"Alright." Lorien nodded. "Let’s finish breakfast first."
"Hmm, hmm?" Natasha agreed out of reflex, then realized what she’d just heard. "Wait—you just got up?"
"What else?" Lorien said while taking a bite. "It’s not like we’re working overtime every day."
Do you even know what it’s like to be an agent, on call 24/7 with no breaks? Ughhhh~~~
The call ended.
Wanda and Gwen sat down to eat. After all, nothing was more important than food.
A short while later, after the three of them finished breakfast and sent their plates to the kitchen for Nora to wash, Lorien clapped his hands.
"Alright, let’s head out. Wanda, open the door."
Wanda nodded. She slid her hand, and a crimson portal bloomed open directly on the lawn outside the Avengers base.
From here, Lorien could already see several people gathered on the grass. He stepped through, with Wanda and Gwen following behind.
Gwen instinctively activated her battle suit, though the style was different: sleek blue sneakers with a black, white, and pink tactical design.
The three entered, and the scarlet portal closed behind them. Everyone nearby noticed their arrival and gave them a nod in greeting.
Not many of them were close acquaintances. Only Natasha and Banner were familiar faces.
So after a polite nod, Lorien walked over to Banner, who was fiddling with an instrument while monitoring the van.
Banner was scanning the vehicle, taking readings. When he noticed Lorien, he finally looked up.
"There’s no data feedback from inside the van."
"All known scanning methods can’t get anything at all."
"It’s like a black hole—completely sealed off, no information coming out."
Banner scratched his head with the device, utterly stumped.
What do you do with zero data? Just guess? Really?
At that moment, Hank Pym rushed over, his expression urgent.
"The Quantum Realm is malfunctioning!"
"Our activators and deactivators are completely useless!"
"We don’t even know what exactly happened!"
"But right now the Quantum Realm is in a berserk state!"
"The entrance is expanding infinitely!"
"If it keeps going like this, Earth won’t last much longer!"
Great.
Lorien immediately understood one thing.
Earth was doomed. Again.
And this time it was a Quantum Realm crisis.
If he wasn’t around, how exactly was this supposed to end?
Natasha joined in, her voice tight.
"We’re out of options. Anything that approaches the entrance is swallowed up. It’s like a black hole without gravity."
"But even without consuming anything, it’s still expanding endlessly."
Gwen’s curiosity spiked. Infinite expansion?
Did that mean... eventually the entire Earth would be pulled into the Quantum Realm?
Then maybe even the whole solar system?
That was incredible—and terrifying.
Wait. If that happened, her and Lorien’s home would be gone!
By this point, Lorien fully grasped the situation.
"Hmm, Earth’s going to be destroyed again."
This planet was constantly on the brink of destruction.
He looked with the others at the Quantum Realm entrance forming inside the van. To be honest, it wasn’t very large.
About the size of a 27-to-34-inch monitor. Roughly a 2K display.
But the problem was, it really was expanding—slowly, yes, but infinitely.
Natasha added,
"When it first appeared, it was only as big as a phone."
"And nothing we tried worked. Thor blasted it with lightning and nearly lost his hammer in the process."
Lorien turned to look at Thor.
Thor shifted his hammer behind his back.
Don’t say anything, please. Too embarrassing.
Loki, catching Lorien’s gaze, quickly offered a respectful greeting.
Lorien folded his arms and gave him a small nod.
As for the others...
Hawkeye was standing way off in the distance, doing nothing at all. His stance screamed: Don’t drag me into this.
"What’s Theoretical Mechanics got to do with me, the assistant commander?"
The rest weren’t much different.
"What’s Theoretical Mechanics got to do with me, the sorcerer?"
"What’s Theoretical Mechanics got to do with me, the sidekick?"
Fine.
A big villain shows up, everyone’s ready to fight for their lives.
But physics and math?
Sorry. If I don’t know it, I really don’t know it. If it’s impressive, it really is impressive.
And right now, the only things that could affect the Quantum Realm weren’t ordinary magic or regular science.
Either you were like Tony, pulling an infinite quantum Reality Manipulator out of thin air.
Or you were a god, capable of rewriting reality itself—wielding something akin to the Reality Stone.
And not just a little power. You’d have to be extremely strong.
So Lorien turned his head toward Wanda and said,
"Wanda, try using Chaos Magic to see if you can shut it down."
"Just focus on closing it."
"Same as when you opened a teleportation gate."
Wanda nodded. She stepped up beside Lorien and raised her hand, scarlet energy spreading as she summoned Chaos Magic.
Loki, watching from nearby, froze. His eyes widened in disbelief.
"Chaos Magic?"
Wasn’t that one of the three ancient energies of the universe?
So... my brother-in-law’s woman is the wielder of it?!
Brother-in-law is incredible! Brother-in-law is invincible! He even won over a woman destined to surpass Odin himself! If that’s not impressive, what is?
Thor, noticing Loki’s stunned expression, leaned closer and nudged him with his elbow.
"What’s wrong?"
Loki muttered under his breath.
"From now on, don’t say I’m the greatest sorcerer in the Nine Realms."
Thor frowned and immediately shot back.
"When did I ever say that?"
Loki: ...
...
Meanwhile, Wanda had already wrapped the entrance of the Quantum Realm in her Chaos Magic.
From their view, the hazy, illusory gateway now looked as though it was covered by a thin veil of crimson silk.
But Wanda quickly ran into a problem. She glanced at Lorien.
"My magic gets swallowed the moment it touches the entrance. How do I alter it?"
Lorien held up two fingers.
"Two options."
"First: directly modify the space you’ve wrapped, essentially altering the Quantum Realm’s space itself."
"Second: modify reality at the instant it’s absorbed, but the timing has to be exact, and you’ll need absolute control."
Wanda thought it over and chose the first method.
The second was too risky for a first attempt. This was her first time facing the Quantum Realm, so it was safer to go with the first option.
She began casting again, following Lorien’s instructions to reshape the space enveloped in Chaos Magic.
"Hum~~~!"
In an instant, the entire area erupted in crimson light!
Scarlet energy surged from Wanda’s body like flowing silk, rushing outward to twist and reshape reality itself.
The burst of power was overwhelming—like the world had suddenly shifted into a completely different style.
Gwen watched in awe.
She had never seen Wanda unleash her magic with such intensity. It was terrifyingly strong, and she even felt as though her own body was being pulled along by it, slipping out of her control.
The others around her were just as stunned.
First, everyone was O_O
Then, when Wanda erupted, everyone’s face turned into O_O all over again!
Far in the distance, Hawkeye practically went @.@, his eyes full of question marks: I was just slacking off for a second, what the hell just happened?
Not far away, Thor and Loki both mirrored the same stunned expression, shifting from O_O to @.@ in an instant.
Thor elbowed Loki again.
"Could you handle that? How much of your power compares?"
Loki thought a moment and raised a single finger—not upright, but tilted sideways.
Thor shot him a glance, then kept watching the spell.
"One percent? Come on, brother, be more confident. How about one-point-five?"
"No. I mean... none at all."
"..."
...
On the other side, Wanda kept pouring her power into the spell.
The spectacle was grand, but she quickly realized something.
"Lorien, the entrance has stopped expanding... but it isn’t shrinking."
Banner checked the readings and nodded.
"Yeah. It’s stabilized, but it won’t collapse."
Lorien, hands in his pockets, looked over at her.
"Try full power?"
Wanda nodded. "Alright."
Everyone around them froze, their eyes wide: O_O!!!
Wait—this wasn’t her full power already?
The sky had turned crimson, the world was practically dyed red... and this wasn’t full strength?
But then—
"Whummm~~~!"
Two books, one black and one white, suddenly floated into the air.
No one recognized them. Otherwise, someone would have been bragging.
But Loki, one of the only sorcerers present, narrowed his eyes. He whispered sharply to Thor.
"Thor, those two books... they look like Divine Books..."
Thor didn’t turn his head, eyes glued to the spectacle.
"What are Divine Books?"
Loki studied them closely.
"I’m not certain. But I know there are only two—one white, one black. These should be them."
Thor nodded slightly, urging him to go on.
Loki hesitated, then said,
"If you ranked the most coveted treasures for every sorcerer in the universe, these two books would be near the top of the list."
"To other sorcerers, these books are more precious than life itself. People have betrayed, turned against their kin, even committed kin-slaying for them."
Thor gave a low grunt of understanding.
"So... just like you."
"...Don’t talk nonsense. I didn’t."
But none of them knew—
At that very moment, nestled deep within Wanda’s chest, a golden gem pulsed faintly with light.
The Mind Stone.
Its subtle yellow glow was strengthening her spirit, amplifying her power.
With the combined might of the Book of the Vishanti, the Darkhold, and the Mind Stone, Wanda was finally unleashing her full strength to shut the Quantum Realm’s gateway.
But nearby, Hank Pym suddenly froze as a thought struck him.
Wait. What was he here for?
To close the entrance directly?
But hold on...
His wife, his son-in-law, and his daughter were still inside!
