Chapter 870: Human faced spider
Kevin’s pupils shrank. He had personally tasted Max’s strength before and knew how terrifying that black flaming sword could be. Without hesitation, he barked to the thin young man beside him, "Jamie! Stop him! I’ll grab the Soul-Nourishing Grass!"
Jamie’s eyes flickered with hesitation. He had seen Max fight and knew he wasn’t simple, but pride clouded his judgment. A peak Master Rank? Against a 3rd level Legend Rank like him? Impossible that he could lose. "Go! I’ll handle him!" Jamie shouted, bracing himself as he lunged toward Max, weapon raised high.
The instant he clashed with Max, Jamie felt it—a strange, devouring force embedded within the flaming slash, sapping his strength, dulling his techniques, slowing his movements as though his limbs had been shackled. His eyes widened in sudden fear.
"Not good—!" he barely had time to mutter.
Max’s strike came crashing down like a mountain. The Blue Dragon Sword ripped through Jamie’s defenses with brutal ease, black flames biting into his body as pain tore through him. His scream echoed in the cave as blood spurted from his lips and he was blasted backward like a ragdoll.
Before he even touched the ground, fate struck again—the colossal golden sword above finally descended with a deafening roar, smashing into his chest with an impact that made the cave quake. His internal organs twisted painfully from the blow, another mouthful of blood spraying into the air as his body flew back, spinning uncontrollably before slamming into the stone wall like a broken doll.
Jamie’s eyes rolled back, his body twitching as he gasped for breath, his expression locked between shock and disbelief. One clash. That was all it took for Max to crush him.
"Jamie!?"
The shrill cry ripped out of Senior Sister Nell’s throat as her eyes darted toward the broken, bloodied body of the thin young man who had been struck down by Max moments earlier. Rage and disbelief surged within her, but she couldn’t take a step toward Max because the Human-Faced Spider King—its eyes blazing with savage fury after seeing its eggs stolen—came at her like a living nightmare.
The beast’s eight remaining legs slammed into the ground, shattering stone and sending debris flying as its venomous fangs snapped inches from her face. Even with her Red Python wrapping itself around the monstrous spider and trying to restrain it, she found herself locked into a deadly battle, unable to escape.
Kevin, on the other hand, wasn’t as surprised by Jamie’s fall. He had experienced firsthand how terrifying Max’s sword could be and knew this outcome wasn’t impossible.
But still, watching one of his own people fall so quickly put a grim, icy edge to his expression. His hands clenched into fists, and veins bulged across his temples as hatred burned hotter than ever.
