Chapter 521 - 519: Black Bear
Some free-range chickens were imprisoned inside the factory shed, with a body lying at the entrance that appeared to have been bitten to death just a few days ago.
Outside of the shed was a door with a large lock, marked with several scratches from wild beasts, but the door itself had not been destroyed.
"This man was incredibly fortunate to have survived the apocalypse here. He had been here since Admiral Rong first arrived at this location. However, he refused to move his chickens and himself to the refugee camp. It was only the day before yesterday that soldiers discovered his death, prompting this mission to retrieve the chickens," said the soldier, providing a lengthy explanation of what had happened.
Su Mo observed the man. It was evident that he had lived a decent life; his body was plump with bear claw-like marks prominently on his chest and both legs were gone, seemingly eaten.
"There must have been no food left in the mountains, otherwise the mutant beast wouldn’t have come down," Mo Yan analyzed.
"Cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck!"
The piercing sound of chickens cackling caught everyone’s attention as they stared at the inside of the chicken coop.
"Let’s go check it out," Lu Chen led the way, surrounded by cold ice as he walked inside.
The inside covered a large area with a straight pathway; both sides lined with chicken coops, though most were empty.
Only the coop that cried the most miserably had its walls collapsed. Stonework crushed many chickens, Su Mo enlarged her vision and saw several fluffy buff-colored roosters, somewhat surprised, "They really are chickens!"
"Hurry, some of you move the heavy stones from the collapsed sides; save as many as you can!" cried the soldier.
Chickens from before the apocalypse were extremely rare.
