Chapter 189: The Bet
After talking for a while, Adam and Alina both left the park. The cool night air was a relief after the heavy conversation. As soon as Adam, in Eric’s body, returned to the assigned dormitory room, his allotted time was up. The control he held over Eric’s body expired. He receded back to his own internal domain.
As soon as he was gone, Eric’s own consciousness came flooding back into his body. He saw that he was standing in his small hostel room. He looked out the window at the dark sky and the glowing magical lamps outside. He understood that it was already nighttime. He felt a deep sense of confusion.
Eric was very surprised by Alina’s last words. She had asked to talk to someone named Adam.
He didn’t understand. He said in a low voice to himself, "Adam? Is he a boy who is in Alina’s class? Why would she ask me to find him?" He felt a pang of something strange.
He did not know it was jealousy. He just felt an odd sense of unease. Eric was waiting for the [System Window] to appear. He expected it to come and explain everything to him. He wanted to know why it had suddenly taken over his body while he was talking to Alina.
Then, the familiar blue System Window came into view in front of Eric. It told Eric that Alina was a little upset. That was why the System Window had to come forward to talk to her.
The System Window then explained to Eric that this problem was Alina’s personal problem. He didn’t need to interfere in it. It said that because this was a girl’s problem, he should not pay attention to it. He should focus on his own training instead.
At first, Eric was thinking that Alina was his friend. He felt that he should help her solve her problem. But after hearing the [System Window]’s logical words and thinking that Alina’s problem was a "girl’s problem," something he knew nothing about, Eric decided to leave the matter alone. He trusted the System. He went to his bed and fell into a deep sleep.
The next day, as Eric was taking his class in Section A, he was thinking about this matter all day. He kept glancing over at Alina, who was sitting near Monica. She still looked sad and withdrawn.
