Chapter 39: Reset The Cool down
As soon as Eric heard the System Window confirm, "Yes, Eric. I believe I can," regarding resetting Alina’s teleportation ability, he was stunned. The System could actually affect someone else’s powers? That seemed incredibly powerful. He felt a wave of confusion wash over him, but also a flicker of hope. If this worked, they could get to Crestport City instantly.
He turned back to Alina. "Wait!" Eric said, holding up a hand to stop her from walking away. "Hold on. I have an idea. A faster way to get there."
Alina stopped and turned around, looking surprised. She walked back towards him, tilting her head curiously. "Another plan?" she asked, folding her arms. "What now, Third Prince? Are we going to fly there?" She sounded slightly sarcastic, still not entirely convinced he knew what he was doing.
Eric ignored the sarcasm. "No," he said seriously. "We’re going to use your special ability. Your teleportation."
Alina immediately frowned, looking annoyed. "Didn’t you hear me?" she said impatiently. "I just told you I can only use it about once a week! And I used it just this morning to get inside the palace walls when the guards weren’t looking! It’s not ready again!"
Eric held up both his hands in a calming gesture. "Relax," he said, trying to sound confident even though he wasn’t entirely sure how this would work. "Just listen to me first, okay?"
Alina sighed dramatically but stopped tapping her foot. "Fine," she said, crossing her arms again. "Tell me what you want to tell me, Third Prince." She waited, looking at him expectantly.
Eric hesitated. He didn’t actually know how this was supposed to work. He quickly sent a thought inward. ’System Window? Okay, now what? What do I do? I have no idea how to handle this girl or this power!’
Inside Eric – Adam’s Domain
Adam sensed Eric’s uncertainty. This required a more direct approach, something beyond just giving advice through the System interface. He needed to channel a tiny bit of his own energy directly. ’Millenia,’ Adam instructed the System entity. ’Prepare to temporarily bypass one of the minor seals restricting my direct interaction through Eric’s right arm. Just enough for me to channel a small amount of energy. I’ll handle the control.’
