Chapter 27: Sir Karlos debuts
The fight was over. And on the ground, the assassin lay still. Dead.
But one of the assassins was different. He was not dead. Adam had hurt him very badly, more than the others. The assassin lay on the floor, blood everywhere, his clothes ripped.
One of his hands... it was cut off, leaving a terrible, bloody place on his arm. His breathing was shallow, weak. His eyes were closed, but a small, small movement showed he was still clinging to life. He was almost gone.
Adam had been full of wild, burning anger just moments ago, hitting and fighting. He had wanted these people, these killers who dared to come into his home, to pay.
But now, looking down at the broken body, some of that hot anger started to cool. It was like the fire inside him turned down a little.
He looked at the assassin. He saw how bad off he was. He knew this one wouldn’t live long without help. And for some reason, looking at him, Adam felt a strange thought. He needed answers, and dead men don’t talk.
Adam lifted his hand. He held it out over the assassin’s chest, where the heart was beating very slowly. His voice, which had been loud and full of power moments before, was now low and quiet. He spoke a single word.
"Heal."
As soon as the sound of Adam’s voice faded in the quiet hall, something amazing happened. A soft, bright green light started to glow from Adam’s hand. It spread out quickly, covering the assassin like a warm blanket made of light.
Everyone in the hall – the King, the Queen, Adam’s brothers, the many guards standing frozen in shock – they all saw this light. They gasped. What was happening? They had seen Adam fight, they had seen his power, but this was new. This felt... different. Like a miracle.
Under the green light, the assassin’s body began to change. The deep cuts on his skin closed up, sealing themselves shut. The bleeding stopped completely. Bones that were broken could be heard making faint snapping sounds as they set themselves straight and strong again, all by themselves. His body, which had been broken and twisted, started to look whole again.
