Chapter 103: The Familiar Soldier (I)
Primrose accidentally woke up in the middle of the night. After skipping lunch and dinner because she had chosen to sleep all day, her stomach felt so hungry that she couldn’t fall back asleep.
"Damn it, I’ve eaten everything," she groaned, clicking her tongue in frustration as she stared at the empty cookie jars on her nightstand.
Even though she didn’t feel like it, it seemed Primrose had no choice but to leave her room and ask a maid to bring her some leftovers from the kitchen.
Unfortunately, when she stepped out, there was no one around except the guard. Since the guard stationed outside her room couldn’t leave his post, she couldn’t ask him to fetch food for her either.
She gave him a tired look. "I’m hungry," she said with a little pout. "Can you come with me to the kitchen?"
The guard’s eyes widened. "You don’t have to go to the kitchen yourself, Your Majesty! I’m sure there are other soldiers nearby, I can just shout to them to find a maid for you."
Primrose sighed. "You’ll just wake everyone up. It’s fine. I skipped two meals, so I’m sure there are leftovers in the kitchen. I just need someone to walk with me."
Truthfully, she didn’t want to bother the maids.
Some were probably asleep, and the ones on night duty weren’t stationed near her room anyway. Besides, back in her homeland, she used to sneak into the kitchen all the time when late-night cravings hit.
In her first life, however, she had never done such a thing because she was too scared to wander the palace at night, and too unwilling to speak to the guards outside her door.
"Come on, I’m starving," she said, walking ahead.
