AMBROSE’S POV:
It didn’t take long for Hector to bring me Emalea.
She was beginning to grow on me. She didn’t tremble, which was... Oddly refreshing.
She simply existed on the same plane as me. Almost like an NPC.
(*Non-Player Character, a gaming term for those who don’t know*)
"You summoned me, my King." Emalea curtsied low and spoke without looking me in the eyes. Perfect obedience.
"Yes. I need you to report to me, everything you do with the princess. Everything. Where you go, who she speaks too. Everything."
She looked up at me with her big grey eyes stunned I’d ask such a thing and what she said next took me by complete surprise.
"No, my king, I can’t do that. I will not compromise myself. I will quit instantly and walk out of here before I am expected to betray my first friend." She looked dead at me and spoke with a flat indifference I didn’t expect of someone like her. Someone so mousy.
"Did you just refuse a royal command." I asked raising an eyebrow. I should have her whipped for defiance. Maybe if she were another servant, not my her friend, I would. Maybe she’s making me soft. Whatever it was, whatever the reason I needed it to stop. I can’t afford this kind of weakness.
